Opening Boot when battery dead on 2008 XKR Converible

Featured Replies

Hi, has anybody got any experience of how to get into the boot to charge the battery when it is dead. The boot will not open manually and I cannot find any access for the remote key in this area. Thanks in anticipation

Welcome to the club, Neil.

I think there is a key entry system on the XK  ---  there is on the S Type.

It is at the left hand side above the number plate on the s type.  But XK owners will be a bit more exact.

Regards,

Peter.

I knew that there was a key slot on the XK, Neil, but not exactly where.

Some of the newer Jaguars don't have that facility, and problems do occur with flat batteries.

My son has a 2008 xkrs and the lock is definately behind the rear number plate, you only need to remove one screw but i can't remember which one.

Thanks Neil. Saved me time and stress

I had this problem on my xj8 (battery is in boot/trunk) when the key for the boot/trunk release did not work. Some told me to drill a hole in a specific place on the rear panel and poke around with a screw driver to release the catch. However you do not need to do this at all. The key will open the drivers door and then you can open the bonnet (hood). Connect a car battery negative earth cable to top of suspension strut (earth) and the positive to the junction of positive cable on right side of engine bay.  (It  is usually covered by a rubber cover) You can then use remote or key to unlock all doors and boot (trunk).
