Fairly urgent help needed!

Featured Replies

Hi, Just been to petrol station and couldn't get the cap off my petrol tank. The door opens no probs but cap just 'clicks' if I force it. An attendant tried as well but with no success. I've had to come home and try again here but not working.

I need to put fuel in to get somewhere in the morning. Do I call out the AA???

Thanks, Tom

PS. Never had this problem before, filled it numerous times

Hi Tom,

I had the same problem once with my s type.   I pushed it in and tried turning it towards closed and then towards open.  It opened. Probably just luck rather than inspiration!

Thanks for your reply Peter. Sadly I tried that and also 'restarting' the car.

Luckily for me a neighbour tried and just as he was about to give up, Hey Presto, it opened! So off I went to the station without replacing it and filled it to the brim. I fear I may be back on here in a couple of weeks...

Happy New Year All.

hi

you could try pouring some home water over the cap out of a kettle

might  just expand it enough to free it off

cheers

joe

Hi Tom,  I'm guessing your car is petrol rather than diesel if so, I've had the same problems with previous cars and commercial vehicles. Petrol fume removes lubricant from the cap mechanism over time therefore I now regularly spray the cap mechanism with a liberal coat of WD 40 and I've had no further problems, this could be the same thing your vehicle is suffering from. give it a try.

All the best for the coming year
