Hi,

I am a newbie to the Jaguar club after many years with Mercedes. My 02 C class is now up for sale and I am gradually getting to grips with my recently acquired S Type. Deep down I believe that the Jag will have a tough job to be as good as the C class – but time alone will tell.  So far I'm quite pleased with the big cat. It definitely has more poke and gives a much smoother ride than my old Merc and the 6-speed Auto box is excellent. Although its early days yet, fuel consumption appears to be a little heavier than the Merc but this may be a reflection on my driving using all the new found power.

I live in South Cumbria and am a retired Senior Lecturer in Auto Engineering.  In my early days I raced motorcycles and rode for Crooks-Suzuki until, in 1970, I decided to retire from this fairly hazardous game. I still enjoy all aspects of two-wheeled sport and my face book profile clearly shows this.

My name (glenvine) is taken from the Isle of Man TT course and refers to a sweeping RH bend about a mile before the village of Crosby. The true Manx name for this curve is Ballagarey. However, on the apex of the corner is a lovely bungalow called Glenvine and as this was one of my favourite bits of the course I chose the name as my handle.

Wish me luck with my S Type

Welcome to the Club, Frank.

I can't get to grips with South Cumbria   ---  Westmorland  and parts of Lancashire used to be almost my second home when I was younger and could spend a weekend getting to the top of the beautiful mountains in that area.

I also was a biker in the sixties - Triumph T100, and one of the first Honda's to come into the UK.

The S Type is a great car to drive, and the best one I have ever driven in 60 years on the road. My S  Type is the 2.7 diesel and is very good on the fuel consumption, although my speed is controlled by SWMBO these days. I think you will soon get a feeling for the big cat.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Peter.

Its fairly obvious that your familiar with the area that I call South Cumbria but to the minions who live in the flat lands and haven't a clue how beautiful this part of the country is then they don't know what they are missing. Thanks for the reply.

Hi Frank,

I was introduced to the Lake District in 1946 when our Scout Group camped in Ambleside, and I can't count the number of times I have visited and taken taken holidays  in the Lake District.  My first date with the young lady who became my wife was a trip on my Triumph T100 to Windermere [An engine blowout on the way back saw the Triumph going for spares], and our honeymoon was spent in Keswick.

My 80th Birthday was spent with the whole of my family in Whinfell Forest at Centre Parcs - which was the only place the 12 of us could get suitable accommodation.

I have been all over the world [except the Antipodes] but there is no place better than that little corner of England.

Regards,

Peter.
