After unlocking remotely and keeping the button press a little longer than normal all the windows and sunroof opened, so i then locked it and again kept the button pressed slightly longer and everything closed, so what i am asking is this a standard feature? does everyone elses act the same?

Yes, it's a standard feature.

global open/close is what it's called. 

Also interesting if your in range and sit on your keys!!!

I don't know if it is the same on prefacelift models, but have you opened the boot with the key, yet?

I have opened the boot remotely with the key, but the key has been nowhere near the boot yet, what should I be looking for?

A key hole? 

Think it's to the left of the boot trim as you look at it. 

Theres also, under the cup holders in the armrest a nice felt lined cubby box if you pull the cup holder out 

Got the cup holders and phone hidden in there, and the cup holders in the middle of the rear seat base, but cant see a keyhole lol, figured the cruise control out and auto setting and time delay on the headlights which are HID with washers, again I think this is standard, but happy to be corrected, also found that it senses the weight of the passenger in the passenger seat and turns the airbag off if a child's car seat is installed. I do find the auto lock once you pull away ( anti car jacking perhaps?) a little annoying and haven't figured how to turn that off, and finally a funny one, I have gotten used to closing the door before I put my seat belt on as if I do it the other way around it restricts me reaching the door ( i'm only a short bloke with small arms)

My 2000 S-type has the Global Open but doesn't seem to have a Global Close.  Is this only on the post 2002 models?

Also I can't see any way of removing the cup-holders to access a cubby box, I guess this is also only on later models?

The keyhole for the boot  lid is just to the right of centre on mine, directly below the "U" in Jaguar but I always use either the button on the dash or the one on the remote anyway.

Hi Robin,

The key entry is the safeguard for an occasion when the battery is flat.  Some Jaguar models don't have this facility.

Hi Robin, The global close was only made a standard option on UK cars, outside of the uk you would have to get the dealer to turn it on, odd i know but apparently true.

 

Biffer, have you folded your wing mirrors yet? put the left/right switch into neutral and press down on the direction pad and tadaaaa! haha. Enjoy

Havent found that one either but im going outside to try that now!

car dash showing -4 door had frozen closed, but managed to get in, I think the mirrors are frozen in place at the moment, i could hear the motor/servo thing kicking in but it failed to fold them in. I will definitely be trying this again once the car defrosts tomorrow, Thanks for the pointer

The powerfold mirrors are prone to sticking owing to dis-similar metal corrosion if not used regularly.

Removing the covers and liberally applying spray lithium grease to the pivot point will help.

Better still, once dosed with spray grease, get somebody to "assist" in exercising the mirrors while you operate the switch.

It might take a while but they will eventually work completely free.

Wiring the powerfold function to extend and retract the mirrors automatically when you lock and unlock the car ensures that the mirrors are regularly exercised 

Great thinking, but wouldnt they also fold when the auto lock anti carjack thing kicks in as you pull away? (that i am still trying to turn off)

No, the wiring is designed to take care of that Keith

my passenger side mirror only half unfolds sometimes, which is irritating, but i will take it apart and lube it up, thanks for the idea, i live off some narrow lanes so the mirror fold is very useful, however the MPG does suffer with all the stopping for traffic and farmers haha

Fold in mirrors now working as they should, the fault was not due to freezing but slightly seized as predicted, thanks to shove in the right direction thanks Paul! So next question, as long as you have the time and of course you don't mind sharing with me is, how easy a task and how do I get the folding mirrors to work when locking and unlocking the car? Thanks again in advance

The is a question i too would like the answer to 

The task is quite simple, requiring two miniature relays and five wiring connections, all within the driver's door.

Please note, it is NOT the same as the method used for the X-Type and that method will not work on the S-Type.

The fly in the ointment is that the S-Type wiring underwent quite a major update for the 2004 MY and as a result, the wire codes I used when fitting the mod in later MY car would have to be altered in accordance with the earlier wiring diagrams. The basic principle within the module would remain the same I expect.

If anybody wants the theoretical wiring diagram and a list of parts by all means ask me. It really is is remarkably simple. Putting together the module and connecting to five wires in the door would probably take no longer than one hour in total.

There is also a chap on one of the other fora who will build you the module for a very reasonable price. I used his ingenious idea on the promise that I wouldn't start supplying modules to others and I won't break my promise so please don't ask me to make a module for you
