I've only owned my S Type for about a year, a little while ago I developed the 'infamous' hot air problem. Blowing hot air regardless of temp setting. I have researched as best I can and see the fix appears to be a replacement head unit and a valve?

But now the heater 'fan' is also making a terrible noise.

I'm guessing that if I simply go into any garage without understanding what is needed I can expect to spend a lot of money on new parts.

Are the problems linked? Will buying a new valve and a 2nd hand head unit fix the issue? Does it sound like I need a full heater unit?

Thanks

Hi Ann and welcome to the club.

I have not come across that in my s type [fingers crossed].

As far as I can gather you appear to have done some of the homework yourself,  and you could possibly look at getting a second hand unit  ---   there was a member who is breaking  an s type who might be worth contacting.

I will check and put the post on when I find it.

Regards,

Peter.

P.S..  Found it.  Contact     gavinparker1983    who is breaking a 2003 S type.

Hi Ann

If its just the heater Fan, then it should be a easy fix there's plenty on eBay

If the noise is coming from the fan and it gets louder as you turn up the fan speed, it could be just the heater fan

as for the heater all ways hot, its usually the heater valve , the valve fails and lets hot water constantly into the heater, these are also on eBay, I'd go for a new one not used, you dont know what your getting when you buy used.

but you need to make sure you get the right heater valve as there is a couple of different types

I think all the heater fans are the same and I'm sure its in one of the foot wells and easy to access, if you were thinking of changing the whole heater, it would be a dash out and would be quite more expensive

a half descent garage should be able to identify where the noise is coming from

heater fans on eBay vary from 20 to 30 pounds and the heater valves vary from 80 to 135 pounds

also can recomend british car parts, they are very reasonable https://www.britishparts.co.uk/t/jaguar/jaguar-s-type

here some examples of fan and heater valve

That is all brilliant thank you!

I understand the valve needs to be new and is probably the cause of the first problem. But I read that the head unit is damaged by the valve failing? Too much voltage?

The heater fan noise isn't a little thing. It sets up a juddering that feels and sounds like a jet engine.. it is seriously loud.
