Hi and can I get some advice?

Featured Replies

Hi,

ive had my 2004 S Type sport diesel for coming up to a couple of years now and it's been pretty plain sailing apart from needing the gearbox serviced shortly after I got it.

Out out of the blue a couple of days ago the parking brake faulted and stuck on. Reading up it seemed that it could be a battery issue so I disconnected for a few hours to see if it would reset. It did for a brief time and then stuck on again and no amount of lever pulling or pushing, or applying foot and parking break together sorted it out. I called out the RAC to check if the battery needed replacing and apparently it's fine although it appears to be over charging. RAC man said it could be the alternator and it could be affecting the ECM?

Does anyone have experience of this and what needed to be done to sort it out?

I really enjoy driving the car but if it's looking like a big problem, then it may have to go :-(

Thanks in advance, Mike

Hi Mike,

I know the problem as I had it this week. A new battery solved it, i my car as the battery was nearly five years old.

Paul has given you the full reset procedure,  and there is a post on the electric handbrake thread from Joe about the s type battery which is also worth reading.

Regards,

Peter.
