My XF wont lock as it says that the rear left door is open. It's not its closed perfectly well. I tried the key to manually lock the car but it only locked the passenger side door.

I've cleaned and defrosted the lock area but no joy. In the ridiculous situation now where I can't leave it out of my sight and also I can't go out.

 

Any ideas?

I had this problem with the boot. It was a broken wire, caused by bending every time boot lid was lifted. Not sure how accessible the wiring is to the door, but there should be some ribbed rubber trunking some where from the body of the car into the door - see if you can pull that back and check if any copper wires have snapped.   

Many Thanks for your reply. Luckily my problem isn't that serious. It just thinks that doors aren't closed when they are. As soon as temp got over freezing today it was ok. Surely a jaguar should be able to function in below freezing conditions. Already nervous about opening doors tomorrow

My can of WD40 would come out for issues like that.  It is possible that the lock is not coming on quite fully.

Just a guess, but a squirt of WD40 is a cheap fix if it works

I agree. WD40 is a water repellant, so if you apply it now it should stop frost causing locks to stick for a while.

It's not oil though, and no substitute for oil long term, because it evaporates. The locks will need a drop of lock oil after a few weeks, when hopefully frost is no longer a problem.

this can be a common fault in winter, on many cars

it will be the door locking mechanism, there a switch inside a that changes state when it locks, there will be a oily grease in there and it can go thick some times, especially when its cold, so it stop the switch from operating freely

you could try like above spraying wd40 into the door catch/lock on the rear door, might work, but sometime it takes removing the door panel, then giving it a good spray with wd40

I had it once and had to remove the door panel, gave the door lock and central locking mech a good spray and it never did it again
