Featured Replies

my s type 2006 2.7 diesel after a 20 mile or so run is starting to smell like its overheating have checked coolant level there fine engine temp shows fine but something definitely isn't right ,it smells like hot metal with a plastic  and is getting stronger after each time i have  used the car do not know were to start looking first

Welcome to the club, Mike.

I couldn't guess where but I think you need to look around the engine to see if something is touching the engine.  I would be the best route to do it wth the engine running to locate the smell.

Regards,

Peter.

Check the exhaust maybe some polythene has stuck to it

Good morning Mike,

I get a similar thing with my X type but only happens occasionally. I checked everything I could think of and all was ok. When it was at the garage having injectors sorted I mentioned it to the mechanic and he thought it was the dpf filter going through its regeneration process at 600 degrees. I have got used to it now, but it does smell like hot plastic. Dont know if your S type has a dpf filter or not.

Cheers

Rod

+1 on the regen cycle smell.

Sometimes mine stinks after a run and, with my pipes on, I can hear when its regenerating.

I have the same problem/smell. Not every run. Seems to be the strongest on the left side near the engine.
