Hi all

I am looking at buying an 08/09 XF and want to ask your advice on the 2.7 or 3.0 diesel engine. I have been told that the 2.7 was a very good Peugeot engine, but the 3.0 is later technology. In your wealth of experience can anyone offer me any advice? Thanks.

I had the XF3.0D S, and found that a wonderful engine.

It was a lovely quiet cruiser when I wanted it that way, but quite an animal when I opened up.

I had no problems whatsoever with the engine. The only items that were less than perfect were the TPMS and the disc pad wear sensors.

Hi

I'd go with the 3.0, It had many improvements over the 2.7

The 2.7 way a joint venture, Jaguar, land-rover, Peugeot, Renault and Citroën, are just a few.

Cheers

Joe

My first XF was the 2.7 yes plenty of power 204 BHP but a bit of a flat spot before it got going but drove very well end of the day its a Jaguar. I now have the 3.0 D S at 275 BHP lot smoother and responsive engine and same as one of the other comments cruises all day on the motorway but when you open it up its a animal. On experience I would go for the 3.0 either the std 240 BHP or the S model at 275 you will not be disappointed.

On that year I would opt for the 3.0S Diesel version as there won't be a lot of difference in the selling price. Be weary of ultra low mileage models as there more and likely just been used to potter around town and you might be in for expensive problems? Coming up to to 8-9 years old or any over 100,000 miles ? The cam belt needs changing if it's not been done factor this in to the buying price. The factory fitted options that were available is quite long so your have to do your own research? On the best spec for money you can buy? My own personal opinion is: Not to buy one with a fitted sunroof as they flex and  squeak + lower the already low headroom in the rear. My number 1 option would be for a model fitted with factory bi-Xenon headlamps! Otherwise stock up on carrots if intend doing a lot of night time driving.
