I have now had my 2004  X Type 2,0D SE for 10 years and if I say it myself, it is still in pristine condition.

Some years ago, a local garage lost my dipstick whilst changing the oil - although of course they denied it.  Instead, they supplied me with a Transit version which my local Jaguar dealer, said was the same size.  However, many oil changes later, my current independent has told me that he is absolutely sure he has put in the correct amount of new oil after thoroughly flushing out the old and the level has come well above the Max mark on the dipstick.

Would any other 2.0D owners be so kind as to measure their dipsticks from the base of the handle to both the min and max marks so I can confirm if indeed both dipsticks are the same dimensions.

Thank you in anticipation of your help.

Dave,

That is very kind of you.  I'll measure mine later and let you know the result.

Richard.

Thanks Dave,

It looks like my Transit dipstick is the same size - 564mm (22.2") to Full and 583mm (2.95") to Fill.

Interestingly though, even though your car is the same year and model as mine, it has a red dipstick like my Transit one but my original one was yellow.  I don't suppose there is a chance yours has been swapped out in the past as well?

Hey Richard, I'll let you call me Dave, but just this once!  And my model's 2005, you state yours as 2004.  Apart from those two minor inaccuracies you seem to be on the ball!

BTW ... it's always been red in my ownership, no idea what the factory colour should be but no doubt a Jaguar dipstick expert might be able to answer that one for you.

Rowley,

Put it down to age!  Dave is the kind chap who sent the original post.

I have looked on line again and seen a guy selling a dipstick for a 2002 - 2005 diesel Jag.  He doesn't state 2.0 or 2.5 but my VIN number is within the ones he states and the part number is one of those stamped on my dipstick so everything fine and dandy.

Thanks to you and Dave for your help.
