I'm going to purchase my first Jag on Saturday, however, I have the choice of two which I'm finding difficult to choose between.

A 10 plate (3.0 l)with 85k luxury model against a 09 plate (2.7l) P Luxury model with 82k. Very similar in condition and S. History with price being £400 apart.

The question is...will I regret not going for the PL with its additional bells and whistles , bearing in mind the more expensive one is the 10 plate.

Thanks

Colour, MOT etc are identical.I'm with you on the regret though, it would be that itch I could never scratch if I didn't...I think. That and one garage is 300 miles closer than the other.

Thank you for the advice, it's greatly appreciated.

Go newer if same price---when you eventually go to p/ ex it they only go by book value--As i discovered recently bells and whistles etc make no difference just year and mileage.

ps I just bought a 2010 xf luxury S --love it.

Thanks Tom, £400 difference between the 09 and 10 plate. Just did a final bit of digging with the 09 plate PL, I contacted the issuing Service history garage and found out that the discs haven't been replaced in the last 4 years. I understand that the XF is pretty hard on these, every 35k I think, so that was a haggling point.

Spoke to the chap in London about this and other minor points and the tone changed very quickly. 'Samir' was not so friendly any more and told me the car "wasn't for me". I assured him in a very friendly manner and tone that I was merely pointing out these facts to him as I'm sure he would appreciate the info. Alas, his sense of humour, not unlike his patience and customer service had gone 'awol'.

A lesson learned and a bullet avoided there one thinks. The moral to this story I suppose is you cannot do enough research on prospective purchases. Also, do not expect any humour from a middle aged, car selling, cockney chap, once you tell him facts which he already knew about his less than honest pitch!

Ho hum.....the search continues 🤔

I waited a good long while for mine and bought it from local garage that I trust ( !! ?)--Probably paid a wee bit too much but if anything goes wrong its on my doorstep.

just as a comparison for you --2010 XF 3.0d Premium Luxury S 57k 2 owners  FJSH 12 month warranty £ 11500 only had it few weeks but so far etc...offered silly money for S Type in p/ex but I sold that privately yesterday .

I've got it down to 3, which I'm going to see tomorrow.

One of them is a stand out, which, if all goes well, will be my ride home tomorrow night.

Of the other two, one is a 10 plate Portfolio S, which is going for £7.7k. It is however, a repo Jag which doesn't sit quite right with me.

The third is my safety net, very clean 10 plate luxury, which will protect me going home disappointed.

The adventure continues, very much looking forward to tomorrow...

good luck--7.7k is way too cheap--theres a reason for it. Unless its over 150k miles. Still wouldnt touch it.

Don`t be tempted to go cheap--After having owned 7 Jags --its not worth it.

Just seen where you are--maybe have a word with the guys at Prestige Jaguar in Paisley. I`m up in Aberdeen but thats where I sent my XKR to be sorted.

Here's one to think about......repo usually means lack of funds, which can (and usually is) reflected in the standard of upkeep/maintenance etc.  Also, an owner always knows when repo is approaching...it doesn't happen overnight and there can often be a consequent lack of care for the soon to be gone vehicle.

Whatever happens, remember that an Experian and/or HPI clear report is essential in order to avoid any lien on the vehicle from interested parties.    My partner and I would not go anywhere near a repo car, although do understand that is our personal opinion.    (Other opinions may be available!!).

Entirely agree with tommac about going cheap on a Jag....there's always a reason.

By the way, tommac, glad to learn that you finally sold your S - it looked a nice one, but we've already got one, and Aberdeenshire is a bit of a jaunt from South Staffordshire!!

As always, happy growling, and good luck with your choice, TDF

Thanks for the advice, I was staying well clear of that one, definitely something untowards going on there.

The one I'm going for is a 10 plate PL with a FJSH, which I've verified with the respective Jaguar garages. Front/rear Disc and pad changes in the last year or so.

After some excellent advice from this forum, I've conducted exhaustive research on this car and looking forward  to the final push.

Thanks again to everyone.

'Happy Growling'....love it 😁

Car purchased, drove my first 200 miles in it and can't stop smiling.....Cheshire Cat mode engaged 😁 'Growling Happily'

Well done, Tom..................let the Growling commence.

Like Ron above, you will no doubt find that you "apparently" keep running out of milk and need to "just pop to the supermarket, dear", which, in the case of your home area, could, we suppose, be a fair way away.     Don't forget to go back for the sugar.

Don't forget the photos on theforum here, and glad to learn that your research and doubts about others seem to have come up with the desired result.

You do realise that "Growlerectomy" is a procedure (designed to remove the permanent grin) which is not available on the NHS?!

Onwards and upwards etc etc

After spending several hours cruising through the Yorkshire Dales seemingly unable to put my right foot down too far, I fear the 'growler-grin' is permanent.

I suspect that there will be a dearth of items dissapearing and requiring instant replacement in our household for the foreseeable future.

Happy, Happy, Joy,Joy 😁

Cruising the Yorkshire Dales eh?    Watch out for the Heartbeat Plods crowd (or was that the Moors?!), although we think you'll outrun them, with their 105E Anglias, LD vans and the like.  Although we did hear that Greengrass had shoehorned a V-12 in his Austin Commercial.

Don't forget to stop at Whitby Head.

As always, happy growling  :toot:
