Tyres & rims.

Hi, first post.

Just bought a nice S type 2006 (56 plate) 2.7L diesel. Keep going out in the morning to a soft tyre but not the same wheel! I've taken it to 2 tyre places, one local, one KAM,

I'm told there's no punctures, the leaks are at the rims. Kinda makes me wonder if I have the right rims & tyres. Can anyone tell me the Rim code and tyre code I should have for this year & model?

Thanks in advance

I had the same problem.  All the tyres kept going soft and i had to pump them up at least once a week.  I took the car to my local garage for a MOT and service and mentioned the tyre problem to the mechanic.  He said it's a common problem with old alloy wheels, so he took the tyres off and put a sealant round the rims.  That was last December and I haven't had to pump the tyres up since.

Hi Gareth and welcome to the club.

Steve has given you the answer.  I also had the same problem and  having new sealant put on the tyres stops the leaks.

Some tyre fitters do not put on enough sealants.  It is still a good idea, though, to check your tyres regularlarly.

Regards,

Peter.

Thanks Steve and to you, Peter. I think at KAM they took the tyres off to inspect the rims, I know they charged £36. so if they refitted the tyres properly the problem would go away. But same again today, offside rear and nearside front soft.

I'd still be interested in knowing the O/E for this model, if anyone knows a register online. I've searched but the results are not consistent, eg. one site says O/E rim code of 7J x 17ET60

Another gives rim code as 7.5J x 17 ET60. I'm also asking because I want to replace the space saver with an alloy and want to get the right one.

Thanks again.

Hi Gareth,

When I bought my s type over 5 years ago I was pleased to see that it had a proper spare wheel which was provided by Jaguar at Castle Bromwich and charged as an optional extra. When I bought a Toyota Yaris for SWMBO it came with a bottle of gunge and an air compressor.  I managed to obtain quotes easily from a used part dealer just by telling him the year and the model plus the Reg Number.  He only supplied wheel rims, and appeared to be quite expert.

Maybe a Jaguar dealer or a tyre supplier could comeuppance with the answer, and a long shot could be an alloy wheel refurbisher.

Peter.
