XKR headlight removal

Featured Replies

Hi

Ive just bought a 2014 XKR and it looks like the drivers side headlight hasn’t been fitted properly (it looks like the headlight has been taken out and not refitted correctly)

Can anyone help me with how to take the headlight out please?

Thanks

Thanks very much Mark

It’s a bit of a strange one as the bolts that hold the wing on have paint chipped off them Indicating it has been removed but why?

I contacted the previous owner who was very prickly and refused to answer any questions (strange!)

Could be any number of reasons. Maybe it had had a prang and somebody decided on a DIY repair, which could be a reason for the headlight not fitting properly (if it's on the same side, that is). Look through the wad of receipts that came with the car (you did get receipts, didn't you?), maybe you'll find the answer there.

Hello
Just joined the forum, so sorry for the late reply - it its still of use...
In a lot of garages, and home DIY mechanics - to do anything to the front - including bulb replacement and pedestrian protection system sensors - its easier to drop the bumper off the car.

This could explain the chip on the bolt and the wobbly front light - a mechanic has already had a socket on it.

  • There is a tiny plastic locator pin on the back of the light (that I broke)...
  • There is a clip underneath the light - that I removed and forgot to refit

This leaves my passenger side light with a tiny wobble - 2mm if you put your fingers on it and wobble it.
Otherwise its not noticeable.

Thanks

Hi Ant,

I'm in the middle of respraying the front bumper cover on my XKR-S (removing license plate holes), so I do know how to get it out. There are 3 bolts in total to remove, 2 you can remove from the front of the car with the hood up - they should be obvious, there is a third bolt which requires you taking the wheel liner off and removing it from the inside of the wheel well. Once all 3 are removed and you unplug the connector it should come out. A little fiddly but doable.

Let me know if you need any photos.

would be great to see pics Marriosd

I'm currently mid process and cannot get the headlight out? All bolts removed.

I have a question, hoping someone can help.

I have a 2007 XK convertible with adaptive head lights. Noticed that the right headlight does not adjust from low to high beam. I can hear the mechanism on the left side clicking when you go from low to high or high to low, but nothing on the right side. Any ideas on how to repair this?

Thanks,

Les

If anyone has pics of R&R headlamps, would be great.

And/or advise on how to fix.
