I've just bought my first XKR and absolutely love it. However, annoyingly it has developed a coolant leak and requires topped up every other journey. When the engine is up to operating temp it starts to leak steam at the front of the engine. The coolant level low warning has come on a couple of times but I've managed to nurse it back home to top up. Is this a common fault or am I just unlucky?

Well Euan, serious investigation is required. At the front of the engine you could be looking at the thermostat tower and water pump or the hoses to the radiator, if you’re lucky. Thermostat tower and water pump are known to fail.

The worst will be the valley pipes though they don’t normally leak from the front.

Find yourself a reputable Jaguar Indy and get it pressure tested, this will be the cheapest way of identifying the fault.

Check the actual Coolant Expansion Tank, My X Type had the similar problem ,found a crack in the bottom of  Coolant Tank, bought new tank off ebay for mine only cost in the region of

£ 20.00  Easy to fit and solved my leaking coolant problem, its worth checking the tank itself before you run up some hefty bills, hope it works out for you.

Well what a !Removed! week this has been. Front off to reveal a hairline crack in the supercharger housing and cracked coolant pipes at the supercharger cooler. A bodge it and scarper job had been done before. A bypass pipe was even blanked off with a bolt and jubilee clip.

So now to strip down supercharger and get new one.
