Boot lid opening

Please can anybody tell me whether the XF boot lid is supposed to pop up or fully open when the button is pressed.

Pops up about 2 inches but there is an upgrade you can do to make it fully open

There's a couple of videos on YouTube that show how to do it. 

This guy from South Africa is a one-man video workshop manual: 

I tried it but only got mine to open about a foot, but I didn't change the struts as that's good enough for me to open it further and get in without putting my bags down, and I didn't want to risk spraining the springs or hinges.

I’ve done the boot mod it easy cost about £25 for parts and 20 mins to do
