2005/6 JAGUAR S TYPE 2.5 V6 MANUAL - ACCELERATION PROBLEM.

I own a 06 Reg. Jaguar s Type 2.5 V6 manual. When I carry out hard acceleration in all gears the start of the acceleration is ok but as the revs increase suddenly the engine cuts but not completely stopping. The orange Engine management starts flashing and a warning is displayed - “Restricted Performance”. The Engine keeps running and the light flashing but I can only travel at low speed, around 30 mph. After about a mile the flashing orange light stops but is still displayed and the Car will then drive as normal. Under normal driving up to 70 mph the Car is fine but this problem only comes to light under hard acceleration. I notice it mainly in third gear but it will still happen in other gears. I took my Car to a Jaguar specialist and they changed the Spark Plug Coils, the Fuel Metering Unit and one of the Catalytic Converters. I still had the same problem so I took it to another Jaguar specialist who cleaned the Fuel filter, removed the 2 Caps to access the twin Fuel Tanks under the Rear Seat and replaced one of the Float Mechanisms. He also replaced the Fuel Pump. After all this I still have the same problem. I have been told that in the Manifold there is a Butterfly Mechanism that can stick but don’t know if this is the case. Has anyone else come across this problem with the Ford designed 2.5 V6. I would be grateful of any relevant information to solve this problem.

I had the same problem when I had a Jag V6, I spent a fortune trying to fix it, It turned out that it was the air filter and fuel filter, as soon as they were both changed, the car was perfect and problem solved. I'm not saying that it is that but it's worth a try and it's pretty cheap..........But it did work for me. It does feel like the car goes into Limp Mode, and lack of power when trying to accelerate. Hope that helps.

In addition to what Joe said, also consider a service, fluids and filters at the least to eliminate any silly faults that the engine management system won't pick up on - it won't tell you the air filter is blocked for example or the fuel filter but (depending on the exact nature of the fault) report something such as throttle valve not working, MAF not working or similar.

To illustrate what i mean, on the old Bosch LH-Jetronic, if the fuel pump(s) failed it would often report a MAF problem - people spent a fortune on a new MAF only to discover that wasn't the problem but the reason the ECU thought the MAF had failed is because all the conditions for an increased air flow were present (except of course fuel due to pump failure) so it blamed the most likely component.
