I’ve always been a jag admirer but I’m not a Jag owner, yet. I’m now into looking at the XF. Questions

1: Is it worth paying the extra for a a 2nd Gen (I believe 2015 -

2: If so, I have to have an auto and prefer diesel so what is the preferred engines and most reliable and economical?

3: Is the Sport model a better advantage?

4: Any pitfalls I need to be wary of?

Thank you for any advice as this is a genuine enquiry into my very late (nearly 79) in life dream.

Hi Roy,

Well,I’m 69 and now on my second XF.

First was an X250 3.0S portfolio (2011). Current one is an X260 3.0 S, loaded with options.

To choose between the two is a bit like choosing between your children! First had a better, but dated interior compared to 5e current one. But the current one is loaded with toys and is much, much more fun to drive. Haven’t tried a non sport version of either, so sorry, can’t comment on whether they’re worth it, but if you want performance and handling but with a supple ride, neither will disappoint.

so….

What colour are you going to choose???
Good hunting, and enjoy!

cheers,

Jon

Hi Jon,

Thank you for your prompt reply. I’ve always been a Jag lover but never been able to afford one. Back in the mid 70s I was offered a MkII 2.4. The engine had been completely overhauled, the interior leather had been repaired to a very high standard and my boss looked after it better than a mother and baby like when it rained he was out with a chamois leather and services never missed. When he was offered a new job and company car he offered me 1st refusal to buy as I looked after mine, being a spanner man, But alas I just didn’t have the money to buy. The biggest regret of my life and bought a load of trash a Cortina estate I spent a fortune on for a complete waste.

Since it’s been my dream to own on. MK II out of my league 😢 hence XF came into view I know nothing about but trying to convince my wife it’ll be something we won’t regret hence I have to get this right.

please understand my long text as I have to have all in front of me to convince  her indoors she won’t regret. 😆👍🏽

My colour choice Red or Black. All whistle and bells. Easy for us to get in and out, again age thing.

But provenance on the drive is a must, but for me it’s comfort, back and knee troubles and that’s  for both of us. However owning a Jag is pride of place but making sure I don’t buy a pup and distance driving is cool.

Again apologies for all who read.. 2.2 or 3.0L diesel. Tax, fuel, performance, comfort or/and problems, problems, problems.

i know what many will think here…What a Whalley but I don’t care as long as I get the best Jag and only Jag that’s right. Nothing or no other manufacture will do as long as can convince.

So definite Auto 2.2, 2.0 or 3.0L Diesel. 2015 - 2016. High mileage if service history to keep cost down? Does 2nd gen worth making that much difference for the price?

Are you all still awake 💤 .

Thank you, I don’t mind you all laughing. 👍🏽

The X260 XF diesel (2015 on) uses either the 2.0 ingenium engine or the 3.0 V6, whereas the earlier X250 model (up to 2015) uses either the 2.2 or 3.0 V6 diesel engine.

The 2.0 ingenium engine doesn't have a brilliant reputation for reliability unfortunately.

General opinion is that the X260 also had lower quality interior materials, until the final facelift in late 2019, when it got the interior upgrade that it deserved.

Personally, I would look for one of the last X250 3.0 V6 S Portfolio models, very well specced and great interior quality.
