Hello,

I am very pleased with my recently purchased 2005 S-Type Diesel automatic.

It seems like many others I have got the dreaded automatic gearbox rolling stop jerking problem, that spoils otherwise a almost perfect example.

Intermittently the car will jump/bang into neutral when coming to a gentle rolling stop.

I have done a little research and it seems like a known software problem that can be fixed by flashing the g/box and engine control module.

This seems more likely that a mechanical malfunction as it very intermittent.

I have contacted the Local dealers, and explained that there may be some TSB covering this and they have said they will check the TSB so I am waiting to see what develops on that front.

The reason for this post is to find out if any members have had and rectified this problem and can add any advice.

If the dealer can carry out the software upgrade, what should the charge be?

Regards

Stan

More on the Automatic gearbox,

My local dealer has checked past TSB against my vin number, and it seems that they agree that there is in fact a TSB that says the the engine ECM and g/box control unit software requires upgrading, then the gearbox has to go through the adaption process then road tested to see if the upgrade rectifies the fault..

They have estimated the cost at £138.

I know that this lunge/lurch/jerk has been well reported, would really like members thoughts on this.

Ok well the dealer carried out the upgrade, I must say I was skeptical, although it was intermittent it did sound like a mechanical bang when it happened.

Well I got the car back , they upgraded the software did a ssafetycheck, washed and vvacuumedand changed a side light bulb and road tested the car bill £138.60.

The gegearboxs now smooth as silk, amazing transformation, I have done about 80 miles and I am really happy.

Problem solved!

to be honest I would have thought that if it was a known fault with software they should have done the job for free.... its not your fault the software wasn't written correctly in the first place surely....

also after looking at the PDF 0.4 hours £125 thats a very expensive car wash you took it to
