X Type performance exhausts (aftersales units)

I have a 2.5 sport and have just bought a performance exhaust which I 'm having fitted next week, but I am having second thoughts. Is this going to have any detrimental effect on the engine? What will it do to fuel economy? Are they going to give a rumbling sound or one of these horrible honda boy racer screaches? Sorry to ask this, bit of an impulse buyer at times!!!

Hi again Drago.

I've never heard of a performance exhaust having a detrimental effect on the engine/ substantial effect on fuel economy. My previous car had a performance exhaust, and I had no issues with the engine and if anything my fuel economy improved.

As for the exhaust, who's the manufacturer of your part? Personally, I love the sound of a fruity exhaust, and I would not worry about having one fitted.

Hi Adam,

Thanks for the info. The exhaust I've bought is made by Adamesh and so far from what I've seen it's really good! There is a clip on you tube and the difference is huge to the standard exhaust. I know they make them for most Jags.

Anyway, can't wait to get them fitted! Will give you an update.....and let you know if I'm still friendly with the neighbours!

Drago,

Ahh you mean this video?

I found it after reading your question. It sounds great, be prepared for people to turn and look at you as you drive by!

Thinking about it, you probably will notice your fuel economy going down a little, this will mainly be your fault as you'll fall in love with the sound of hard acceleration! I was lucky, my neighbors are both tone deaf! Hope it all goes well for you.

Adam,

That's the one. Does sound good. Can't wait for Sunday morning. My neighbour’s a bike nut and has 2 old Triumph Bonneville’s which he’s been riding to work on since the mid eighties, and he leaves around 6am most mornings. Doesn’t work Sunday though, so may have to give him an early morning alarm call!!! What’s sauce for the Goose etc etc!!

Cheers!

Drago,

It sounds epic. Ahh I wish my neighbors were more car friendly, there currently daily is a M reg Mazda 323f with what looks like tar spread across the whole roof to cure a leaky sunroof.

It still leaks.

hi there,

i know it's been a while - but i'm seriously considering fitting one to my 2.5 v6.

how did it go?

any regrets?

if it sounds anything like the clip, i'm in awe!

I've had mine on for a couple of years now and love it. Drive a Discovery too and always a treat to get back in the Jag. Has a very low rumble rather than screech which my boss reckons sounds like an old Aston Martin DB5 (he's owned Astons too). DB5 was a 6 in line so must be something in it. It is noticeable a low revs but not unpleasant at speed, spent one weekend going backwards and forwards through Hindhead tunnel just to hear the gear changes!!! No difference on fuel economy, maybe a little increase in performance (if you alter induction too will see a difference). Don't regret doing it at all but would suggest hanging on to old back boxes (which I didn't) in case the growl isn't to your liking. Bet you'll like it though!

Best of luck with it, let me know how you get on.

Thanks for the response Drago.

If i was tempted before, you've sold me on it now by talking about "low rumble" and "growl".

Just going to do a bit of shopping around, then I'll let you know the result.

Pleasure James. Forgot to add that you'll get a lot of people asking you if it's a V8, plus a fair bit of interest at traffic lights with the boy racers!

Look forward to hearing the update!

Take care,

Drago

Just part ex'd my beloved X type for a 3.0 S type sport auto. Missing the exhaust note already but love the new car. Anyone put adamesh exhausts on an S type before? Was the effect as good as the X type?

What makes it painful is my old car keeps coming up on car guru. So wish I'd kept it!
