Hi, my 1995 XJ6 Auto will only start in nuetral, NOT PARK! Is there a isolating switch within the gearbox that can be looked at or changed? This has only happened in the last week after many months of trouble-free starting. All help welcome & happy New Year to all members..Dave 8.

Sounds like the switch has gone.. or it may simply be a dirty connection.. I have never taken one apart but worth having the trim taken off and take a look at it

OK, which trim? under either footwell? or the gearshift surround & ski slope? I have had the centre surround ou in the past to change a cracked wood finish, is it to the side of the the gearshift? thanks for the quick reply.

Hi Buddy,

This may sound funny but I had the same problem with My XJ40'S, it turns out that if the brake light switch is dodgy it prevents the Jag starting in park.

Hope this helps

getting the gear shift surround and console out is no biggie.....and it does sound like park isolation switch

I had a similar problem but it wouldn't start in park or neutral....it was the rheostat that the shift lever slides past which was the culprit
