Finally succumbed and got myself a 2005 S Type TD SE. The test drive was grand, the quality of the ride was brilliant and the low levels of noise were just amazing.

Looking forward to picking her up on Tuesday when I can get her on the Motorway and then on to some a roads for a more prolonged drive.

Hear's to a few years of really enjoyable driving!

PS anybody Know anything about Towbars!

Welcome to the Club, Martin.

You will enjoy the quiet rumble of the 2.7 diesel engine.

I towed a caravan for 20 years with various cars but never a Jaguar.

What I do know about tow bars on an S type is from others.

1. The S type is a great tow car.

2. Don't try to fit the tow bar yourself unless you are expert.

There are plenty of mobile towbar fitters about. I would recommend you get a detachable one as it can interfere with the parking sensors.

Regards,

Peter.

Welcome to the forum Martin.

My last 2 cars had towbars but I couldn't bear to think of adding one to my X-Type. However, if I were to do it, I'd fit a Witter one and make it the detachable type. They do one with a swan-neck and concealed power sockets so that once removed you can't see it at all. A little more expensive but, again, you get what you pay for. They are the best in my opinion.

Enjoy your S.

Mick

Thanks Gentlemen, I was thinking of using a detachable bar so as not to ruin the lines of the Jaguar, I know it seems like sacrilege putting a towbar on the S type but this was part of the deal with the other half otherwise I would have had to have waited another score of years before picking up my dream Mark.

Thanks for the welcome and looking forward to hopefully attending some meets.

Martin

Go Witter, as Mick said, Martin.  Best in the business.

There is a Charity Car meet near Alfreton on the 18th May and a few members of the club are going.

There is a topic on the Forums.

Just look out for Jaguars with the Club Sticker on them.

Regards,

Peter.

Picked up my S Type and it's everything I could hoped for! Good ride, quiet and powerful! I could do some kind of comparison with the missus but I think she may well object.

Loving it.

Thanks for the advice on the towbars. I have sourced a company JIB Towbars in the Midlands who have quoted under £400 for a detachable, seems pretty good to me.

Hi Martin,

The last tow bar I had fitted was on a Rover 2.5 Sterling in 2000 and cost me £250, and it wasn't detachable either, so I think a detachable 15 years later is pretty good value.

I thought you would like the quietness of the 2.7 diesel, and when you push the S button it certainly shows a lot of pace.

Regards,

Peter.
