Hey all, I have acquired a 2009 5.0L X150, my first Jaguar, for a fantastic price. As with all good things there is a catch. The Car runs but blows smoke out the exhaust, Head Gasket according to a independent Jaguar Mechanic. I can make use of a friends garage and pay to have the engine taken out and either change the head gaskets myself or get my friend to do the entire job. I also have a 3rd option and that is for me to do the job at home as a project. My main question is it possible to remove the heads whilst the engine is in the Car? I have been told that you struggle to remove the heads due to the inner strut towers but I was wondering if it was possible to unbolt and rotate the engine enough to pull the heads off to change the head gaskets? I understand that this is not a simple task, I am an ex professional racing driver, raised around Cars and have always fixed and fettled my own cars. I have a well equipped triple garage to work on the car. I also intend to get all the correct locking tools and also investing in a hydraulic scissor lift so I can get under the Car etc. I quite like the idea of a project but want to make sure that I am not biting off more than I can chew. Just purchased a 2007 Jaguar XK convertible with 69000 miles on her. Silver with a cream interior, almost perfect condition, always maintained and garaged. Only thing I don't like is has aftermarket chrome wheels which I would prefer stock wheels.

As an update, I have now fixed this part of the issue by replacing the unit under the centre arm rest that holds the SIM card (and 12v power socket & USB's). But now I have my 4G signal back, I have still lost my live traffic info from my Sat Nav.

Hi If you google it you need a special electronic control unit for adding trailer sockets on these as all the rear light outputs to the lights have a permanent positive feed to one side of the bulb and the rear body module switches the earth to bring the light on. your trailer will be completely opposite, hence the need for the module, also too much load on the body module outputs could pop the rear body module something like these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152266585006 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280904208860 cheers Joe

Hi Jason, welcome back to Modern XK motoring. The DVD based Satnav system in the XK is now well out of date and whilst you may be able to find "pirate" discs on the web, claiming to offer "updated maps", these can create more problems than they solve. I know of several instances where the installation of these update discs have actually caused the whole infotainment system and the Touchscreen to freeze and become corrupted and unusable. I am sure others will be along soon to advise that they have had a very positive experience, but until you slot the disc into the DVD player in the boot, you don't know what result you will receive. In my opinion, there are two ways to sort the out of date map situation. A) get yourself a good phone holder and use the Maps App from your phone. B) search around and you will find a number of companies who can install Apple CarPlay or Android Auto into your XKR-S depending on your phone preferences. These modifications give you a truly modern update for use in the car. Please note that the installation to a 5.0 litre XK is not straightforward and does require a specialist, it is not a DIY task unless you are an experienced Electronics Engineer. Incidentally, your profile information says your car is an XFR-S, not XKR-S. Good luck. N6 JMX

If they're the same/similar to Range Rover struts of a similar era, they can't be stripped as far as i'm aware. However, have a search on ebay/Amazon/etc, chances are you'll find an aftermarket part that is identical in every way except perhaps the manufacturers logo. A friend of mine had exactly the symptoms you describe with his RR and the new aftermarket struts were identical except for the logo. Fixed the problem in a matter of minutes to swap them.

Thanks again, it seems quite easy to change this sensor, but not the other one, apparently it's inside the transmission, don't know if I'm confident enough to change that one 😕, But then it may be an idea to change the fluid as the car has done 51000 🤔

finally sorted it, and it was such a simple fix, if anyone experiences this problem here are the simple steps to fix the issue, 1. open boot and disconnect the neg (-) terminal 2. leave disconnected for 5 minuets 3. touch the negative (-) lead to the positive (+) and hold it there for 30 seconds. 4. close boot lid manually. 5. press and hold pan roof open button. you may also have to reset the handbrake by holding down the foot brake and applying the handbrake. after doing this mine is all working fine even on the remote fob. hope this might help anyone else with the same issue i had.

hi there I’m new I have read the rules and I hope this conforms and is okay the car is located in Suffolk near Woodbridge it’s Just passed the mot with 1 advisory which was an imbalance on the hand brake which has been sorted. It’s a very tidy car with mostly original paint it does have a few minor imperfections but generally looks fantastic. It drives beautifully and every bushing has been replaced on the front suspension meaning the car drives very solid I am open to offers as the most important thing is that it goes to a good home. I’m unfortunately having to sell due to moving house. If you would like any more pictures videos etc please just ask I’m more than happy to answer any questions. Also viewing is more than welcome the cars currently dry stored in a hanger. I’m looking for around £7000 however offers are welcome.

Hello folks. New to Jaguars. A friend entrusted us with the care and feeding of his '87 Jaguar XJ6. With no owners manual and the previous owner's fading and failing memory, I'm a bit out to sea so have tons of questions and minor, surprise, electrical issues I would love to be able to resolve. That’s very true. Luckily I get access to a Motor club at work, which has 4 post ramps and everything a mechanic could wish for Christmas. I’ve found a video of how to remove the fluid, but struggling to find one about how to put the new fluid in.

I will check thank you. So to clarify, you recommend part fluid change every couple hundred miles, over a full change? Silly question, but how will I know when all the fluid has been changed? Is this something that’s easily done myself?

Thanks for the welcome Dave. I joined specifically to advise about this and although an xk8 fan, I'm not so keen on that they're prone to corrosion. Good luck with the purchase Lucas. Xkr g/box is stronger than that of the xk8 on the 4 litre cars. I think all of the boxes could benefit having their fluid renewed at about the 80k mile mark.

Hi Jackie Sounds like you have a similar problem to one I had during lockdown. I let the battery completely discharge through lack of use. When AA got it started all OK except both rear doors remained locked and would not open. Mine was sorted under warranty but I understand a garage with the Autologic software can sort it quickly. I think the problem is that low voltage corrupts the software in one of the many computer modules so it needs re-coding. This has all the hallmarks of low battery voltage. A full recharge should see you right.

Glad to hear you're all up and running again, worthwhile clearing that fault code for the furure - if something else happens and someone plugs in a reader it will show up and probably give a red herring to the diagnosis.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone on this thread and add a few pics of the old and new part, together with the fault code that I had on my cheap ODB car scanner app. You could probably do everything with the front wheel off and the wheel liner pushed out of the way. I did take the air box out first but there is no way to get the part out from the top. It did give a me a bit more light to work, especially as the wiring and harness clips were a pain to remove. The fault code cleared by itself after I started the car with the new part.

A belated thanks for this advice which I have taken, but I wish I could find some reccomended baggage for use in the F type boot. Even my jacket has to go in there when Im driving. Whilst I really enjoy my F for driving, surprisingly the Volvo C 70 is more nimble for town use and ease of access. Obviously need to run them in tandem so no SORN just yet !.

SWB; LWB; I’d say the one in your picture is a SWB.

Look at similar models for sale on somewhere like AutoTrader and compare the side view photos. Like Dave, I agree it looks like a LWB in the single image you have. N6 JMX

Petrol - it warms up quicker and won't cause you DPF or similar expensive problems. Also the larger the engine in a car that size, the less it has to work hard so better fuel economy as a general rule od thumb. Obviously if you go for a 5.0V8 supercharged then economy won't be as good. Whatever you go for, make sure to give it one long high speed (motorway) run every so often to help keep things cleared out.

Hi Daniel, I have a 3.0 sovereign X type and I think good ones are getting quite hard to get hold of .Mine has the manual gearbox which makes it fun and quite fast to drive if the urge should strike. (Not that the need for speed hits me very often !).Lovely cars, welcome aboard.😀

The local car dismantlers will not accept them as they are already off the car and could be stolen ?.the car has since been scrapped after i sold the body engine and gearbox. To a buyer who wanted to fit the running gear into a mk11 capri
