  1. Having switched my allegiance from SAAB to Jaguar in or around 2008, purchased my first XF (Diesel second hand ) in 2010. See below next to my last Saab which I also still have. Owned two further XFs before switching to my current 2017 XF-S supercharged petrol. Love this car and will probably hang on to it forever 😜 . No intention of switching to EV despite test driving a Tesla S in 2019 ( ludicrous mode is exactly what it is) .

  2. I'd have a look online in your home area (it says non-UK so no idea where in the world you are) and find a Dexron VI compatible fluid and use that, especially if you plan on periodic part-changes or full changes to maintain it. A quick search revealed that Pentosil #1 is a "life-time fluid" so is likely to be more expensive and won't necessarily last the life of your box. I'd prefer to do a part-change once a year or so to maintain the fluid than use a "lifetime fluid" that maybe breaks down and kills my gearbox. Each to their own though.......

  3. Jimbov you are an absolute star! the first few mins of the video show exactly what I wanted. It even had a little tip to stop damage to the chrome on the plastic next to it. Thank you I just wasn't sure anyone would answer such a random question never mind such a fabulous accurate close up how to do it. Providing the weather is okay I will change over to a nice new shiny chrome number plate area. It is a new car to me and when I bought it the paintwork on the whole light cluster was a bit rough and really the only item that needed attention. Thanks again Spiderromeo

  4. Send your friend to the Jaguar Classic Parts website and browse there to find his model and all of the relevant parts diagrams. Link here: Xk8 Coupe/convertible 1997 - 2006 (x100) Classic | Jaguar Land Rover Classic Parts he will need to know his VIN - number in the bottom corner of the windscreen. N6 JMX

  5. How many times have you heard the story of how someone came to be enthralled by Jaguar? Having a lift to school in the back of my friend's dad's Jaguar is a typical soundbite but I don't see any of today's schoolboys wanting a Jaguar in 30 years time because he got a lift in an EV!!!!! Jaguars have soul and that comes as much from the noise it makes to the way it holds you in the seat. N6 JMX

  7. Little tip with the inertia switch - tap the body of it with the handle of a screwdriver until you hear it deploy with a definite "bah-doy-nnng" then reset it. They have a habit of furring the contacts, especially if sat for a while and this can often cause the fuel pump to not run. Also try the spare key in case the transponder in your main key has died.

  8. If the pump does not run then first check the inertia switch hasn’t tripped inadvertently before you go further.

  9. Hi this is my first Jaguar, so it have been quite a learning curve. It is so much fun to drive. I found my XJ40 sitting in a luxury car dealership with no registration and a ABS problem. It was a real nice locking car and my wife loved it so I bought it site unseen and had it delivered. When checking the service book I found that it had only done 2000k in the last 10 years and it was running poorly, a couple of bottles of injector cleaner, full oil change and service saw it right. As ABS was not mandatory down here until 2003 and being a old circuit racer I had it removed, the car still stops on a dime. I registered the car on historic plates which where I am gives me 60 driving days a year . Since then I have replaced the rear suspension and sway bar bushes and 2 oil pressure senders in 14 months ( they are just so hard to get to). The 3rd one will be a after market universal one as the one we can get down here seem to be rubbish. I'm not completely sure if it will work but the other ones cost $100 au plus so I will give it a try.

  14. The X260 XF diesel (2015 on) uses either the 2.0 ingenium engine or the 3.0 V6, whereas the earlier X250 model (up to 2015) uses either the 2.2 or 3.0 V6 diesel engine. The 2.0 ingenium engine doesn't have a brilliant reputation for reliability unfortunately. General opinion is that the X260 also had lower quality interior materials, until the final facelift in late 2019, when it got the interior upgrade that it deserved. Personally, I would look for one of the last X250 3.0 V6 S Portfolio models, very well specced and great interior quality.

  15. My carpentry skills are non existent! (I mean, I could get a splinter! Or even worse, break a nail! 😱😂) I guess I’ll just have to see if I can find someone that would be willing to take on the challenge, but thank you for your reply ✌🏻🙂

  16. Hi Roy, Well,I’m 69 and now on my second XF. First was an X250 3.0S portfolio (2011). Current one is an X260 3.0 S, loaded with options. To choose between the two is a bit like choosing between your children! First had a better, but dated interior compared to 5e current one. But the current one is loaded with toys and is much, much more fun to drive. Haven’t tried a non sport version of either, so sorry, can’t comment on whether they’re worth it, but if you want performance and handling but with a supple ride, neither will disappoint. so…. What colour are you going to choose??? Good hunting, and enjoy! cheers, Jon

  17. Rare chance to get a rare car. 1983 was the III series, the last of the Vanden Plas. Only 140 were made and this is thought to be one of only 2 left. Near full service history, last full one in October 2024. Immaculate walnut wood interior with gold banding. Beautiful cream leather with bespoke piping to match claret car colour. Kent alloys plus spare. Working electric windows and sun roof, original tool kit and first aid kit the list goes on. 12 page valuation of £18,000. Number plate valued at £1,000, cars nickname Lucifer. Selling well below value due to diagnosis and getting affairs in order. offers around £9,000. Please

  21. Incidentally, if you are looking for a Club that deals exclusively with the Modern XK, you could think about joining the XKCC, see link below. The annual membership fee is only £10 and well worth it for the camaraderie and outings alone. Home | XKCC N6 JMX

  22. Welcome aboard Jim, and I hope you have many happy miles in your XKR Convertible - Zero. As you will note if you have already been trawling in this section of the Forum, there is a lot of knowledge and a willingness to share this with fellow Enthusiasts. If you have already suffered from the dreaded tin worm on your unfortunate XJ, then I am assuming that you had the underside of Zero fully checked out ahead of purchase. The main body may be aluminium, but that doesn't guarantee no corrosion, just a different version, but the underside has steel subframes that can get into a really poor state very quickly. This is especially the case if the car has been used year round and seen salted roads or, strangely enough, if the car has spent some of its life living by the seaside. Let's see a few photos when you can. N6 JMX

  23. I think the part number you require is JLM21457. Typing this into a search engine comes up with multiple hits, at least some of which claim to have the parts in stock, including British Parts, for £65.02 + VAT. jaguar xj6 xj12 bonnet hood strut |British Parts UK Appreciate you are overseas, but most of these suppliers are familiar with delivering overseas. 24. Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, it does not confirm these fit my DD6 as the compatible Daimler list does not go back before 1989 and if I select a 1986 Jaguar Sovereign V12 it says it does not fit. I see struts listed for XJ40s and XJSs but didn't know if they take the same length as those on the DD6 which are about 14 inches long extended.

  25. Thanks for the comment. You are absolutely correct. That's why I bought an aluminium-bodied car this time. I have had a varied career, but spent thirty years in the motor industry building cars. I have always had the same intention; it's only now I can afford to buy what I wanted all along. I was in senior management, but not that senior that I could affect what we made. And I am an engineer and know that aluminium is not completely the answer but it is getting nearer. Jim My other cars are a Suzuki Swift Sports (just a day-to-day car but fun) and a track car a fibreglass-bodied, but properly chassisied Porsche 550 Spyder copy, with an Alfa flat four Engine. My general nickname is Spyderromeo

  26. Start with the basics, check the diff oil level. It takes about 750ml of fluid and is simple to suction out and refill, not a bad idea since original 19yr old fluid will be in there. I use Smith & Allen FS 75w-140.

  27. Thank you Jim, simplifies things when you have an idea of what does what! I have found the fault and rectified it in a couple of minutes, problem was the vacuum module which is located under the battery tray, for some reason one of the multi pin plugs was not fully connected?? Don’t know why? It’s now making full contact and system is working properly! pedal is now solid. Just have to put everything back together again and job done! I am surprised that I didn’t get a DTC for this fault. Thanks again Regards Steve H.
