  1. Many years back a lot of mechanics were caught out by the firing order on the XJ6 engine.
Bizarre as it was, the number 1 cylinder was at the back of the engine and the cylinders then ran to number 6 cylinder being at the front of the engine.

Urban myth is that the original blueprints were upside down when the engine was manufactured - how true that is I'm not sure but it did cause many problems for years to come.

So, quite possibly the incorrect cylinder location could be a possibility - easily diagnosed by swapping components from the affected cylinder to another one and see if the fault replicates there - this also proves it to be either an injector or ignition fault rather than being the cylinder at fault (e.g. compression, etc)
Also if the misfire is current when testing an infra-red temperature gauge can read temperatures on each cylinder and the one(s) that are reading lower temperature are possibly the location of the misfiring cylinder

  2. I believe they have also ceased production in the US as well as other global markets. Very strange times indeed!
The saying 'all your eggs in one basket' comes to mind with Jaguar (and many other manufacturers) with the sole production of Electric Vehicles.

Interesting article from BMW who are currently voicing their opposition to the proposed ICE ban

  3. A fantastic period piece featuring the iconic E-Type Jaguar (well what else are you going to use in a road movie).

This fantastic film produced by Pirelli using an e-type (XKE) Jaguar to demonstrate their range of Cinturato Tires. By the time this film was made the Pirelli Cinturato range had already been available for over a decade.Pirelli’s Cinturato range of tires dramatically changed people’s perception of how good tires could be. They improved the handling of cars like an e-type Jaguar, when fitted with these progressive sports car tires.

  4. It's certainly getting to the age where you will see a decline in numbers with owners scrapping or breaking the car.
As it's neither too new or too old, it is in a limbo stage to become a classic, as yet....however, if you've had the foresight to acquire one then it's worth hanging onto and keeping in tip-top condition to further increase its value as it becomes even rarer over time

Feel free to post up some pics of it if you would like to?

  5. HI Stephen....welcome to the Club

I would start by connecting a battery conditioner (not just a charger but a smart conditioner which will restore the battery)  or alternatively just replace the battery.

Check and inflate the tyre pressures and also check the tyre condition for perishing and cracks.

Check (and replace if necessary) the engine Oil and other fluid levels

Turn the engine over but do not necessarily start it immediately, e.g. if diesel then turn it over before the glow plugs kick in so that the engine is turning freely for a while to get the Oil pressure up. If petrol engine, then disconnect the ignition coil electrical connections or fuel injector connectors.

Ensure the brakes are not seized on and if so then gradually driving backwards and forwards until they release may work.

Good luck and let us know how you get on with it all
