  1. So, looking to purchase a second Jag, idea is (never works out this way) to buy with a view to use occasionally during summer days and probably lock away for the rest of the time (although struggling to find storage at the moment), with a view if I get a good XK8/R, prices will go up over time and I have myself a very nice convertible for the occasional nice sunny days in the UK.

Only just started the search, but few thing have struck me, prices seem to be completely random, now not physically been to see any yet, but from pictures, descriptions. mileage, owners, even colours, prices range significantly, more significantly than I have ever seen on any other car at least which is weird. Maybe just current climate, but feels like if you know what you are buying, maybe some bargains to be had?

Anyway, key question, what colours, specs, limited editions are worth keeping any eye out for, what is a realistic good price, heard a few times these cars can suffer from a little bit of rust etc and the older ones have had a few engine issues.

Any tips would be great as I start my search for a good one, luckily no short of cars out there.

  2. As an update, garage had a good look round today, had car running for a bit and no sign of leak, however, the garage think when the garage that I bought car from did the services they did not empty the Oil properly and the old Oil has been held in the under tray, when parking on my sloped drive it comes out.  Oil colour in tray looks old to that in the engine and apparently there was lots of oil in the undertray.

Not seen any signs of leak from monitoring dip stick either so hoping all good.

Anyway all cleaned up, will try clean oil off driveway and monitor, hopefully will see no more.

  3. Another question, batteries, given our cars if we are now sitting at home going nowhere, any tips on stopping batteries dying while these cars sit doing nothing?

Suspect starting it up and not driving it will drain the battery quicker than anything, any top tips please?

  4. Afternoon all,

Have a suspected Oil leak, dont think it is bad but wanted to see if anyone has any ideas.

Few pictures of underneath of the car, there are some patches (can see in picture) on the ground seem to be two the are lower left, one slightly higher to the right. The patches are getting slowly bigger but it seems to be a slow leak so hoping its a seal somewhere.

Getting it to a garage or getting someone to look at it will be challenging in the current climate so hoping she will ride the storm 🙂

  5. Well she's not broken down, putting on a private plate has ironically generated more interest as been asked a few times what it is 🙂

Kids and the wifey absolutely love it, more space for them and they all like the sound track.

For me, bought some shares in Shell and has disabled the ability to see the mpg, but the 6 mile commute to work is fun, especially with a tunnel on route, sure that novelty will wear off....maybe.

Drives like a dream, quiet ish when driving normally and when in sport and chequer flag mode, might as well phone 999 and hand in your license its mental, damn sure if you put the car upright its got enough torque to get to the moon 😂

Going up on the ramp on saturday just have a good look at the suspension on the front, no issues driving but advisory on MOT and previous jag garage mention to look and change the belts even though its low mileage.

Anything else i should change with the belts, thinks it got 2 drive and auxiliary?

  6. Thanks Trevor, funny enough looked at one yesterday, been in an XFS before but the XFRS really surprised me....

    1) its really comfortable

    2) its surprisingly quiet when inside, in D mode, just driving normally

    3) does look meaner in the flesh.

Then you unleash the beast, talk about Jekyll and Hyde, pulls like a train and gets a tad louder!

Deposit down, could not fault the car few wear and tear minor defects (less than expected for a car 6 years old), no nasty smoke from cold or after test drive, gear changes all smooth in D S and manual. Been serviced to the schedule and every 6k or so.

Independent mechanic out tomorrow, if its good, will be a proud owner by next weekend.

  7. Evening all,

New to this forum and looking for advice and tips on purchasing one of the XFRS saloon version this year.

Not in any rush, company car XE due to expire this year so have time on my side to do the research and find the right car for me.

Apart from the usual things like car history etc, what are the things i really need to look out for when hunting one down. Any key service milestones for belts, pumps etc any tail tell signs sound or other I should look out for.

Lastly, price been looking on auto trader for 4 months or so now, odd is the pricing assume this is due to there only being 140 or so still registered in the UK, but good to get any advice on price to make sure dont pay too over even for the right one.

Assuming prices for these beasts also not going to drop too much if mileage kept reasonable and they are well looked after, I usually service any performance car every 6 months to try and help avoid any oh dears.

In the west Yorkshire region so will need to find decent garage to look after the services, never get the time to do it myself (probably a good thing, rushing on a car service is never good).

Will look through historical posts too, assume given there arent many some for sale may have been owned by people here in the past.

Thanks in advance for any help.
