  1. Hi all I have, and have successfully used, an ELM327 code reader (USB) - but can't for the life of me talk to the Jag? Is there a special trick to get these cars to talk? Tried OBDWiz. Scantools etc and nothing passed verifying the interface. Answers on a postcard please. thanks Code curious
  2. Lol - I had that day today. Swimming morning then adventure park afternoon. Tried a sneaky light lense polish first thing but denied. ;) all good though. Plans for bank hol?
  3. Had some time with the kids asleep and management doing some gardening so managed to get some car stuff done a week into ownership; New wipers New air filter Replaced side repeaters for smoked Cleaned out washer jets Re seated headlight bulbs ( was wondering why the beam was no where and discovered both bulbs fitted upside down by previous numpty) replaced sport badge Cleaned car Replaced some missing under bonnet trim poppers (holes just annoy me) Stood back drank tea and admired edit - couple of pics
  4. Wow- nice work:) yes that does get sanity questioned ! Did that on an audi and while they were off decided to degrease the uprights. I don't get that involved these days :)
  5. I've not done anything to this car yet.. 1. its pretty cold, 2. The kids won't let me so I have to find time when the management goes away to mother in law for a day! I have a friend who is a Beemer driver who likes a day tinkering and cleaning so usually hook up with him for a car day when ladies do other things :-) works not been kind to me lately either
  6. its a nightmare to keep clean for sure but does look nice - what got me about this was just had the polish chaps up the road give it the 6 quid once over to look presentable and boom on the way back - wasted 6 quid personally.. I spend far too long on cleaning cars Used to use a lot of Meguiars stuff but there is plenty of good cheaper products I'll generally clean and rinse and cham off with a good bubble bath type cleaner, then polish sometimes use clay - but then I'll do the door shuts, guttering, under the wheel arches, under the bonnet (clean and degrease pipework, plastics etc, takes me ages and always get sidetracked onto something else
  7. I guess this may have been asked before, but what are my options ? what are the connections (standard EU?) Can I get a double din head unit in ? how does the standard unit come out? thanks
  8. Here are a couple of pics.. yes it needs cleaning - but to be fair I did - then driving up a country lane, got passed by a tractor coming towards that flicked mud across the car. Glad I bothered!
  9. and once you break the clips.. British Parts UK stock them
  10. I'm pretty good any evening with some notice, or weekend/lunchtime..
  11. Hi - and thanks yes it is my first Jag - a bit spontaneous to be honest. went to get a sensible family car (small mpv type thing) and came back with this.. I still maintain its a sensible family car - although the boot is shallower than one first imagined :-) I've had a chequered car history from Landrovers finest, Audi A and S8, Merc E class, Beemer 7 series - all about same age So far am loving this car. seemingly in very good shape and even managed to verify the fully stamped book with its originating dealer in Leicester Hoping to keep it for a while so will be on here a fair bit for tips and help!
  12. mines old then - defo doesn't have that wrap around detail on the back. Will fire a couple pics off in the morning as I got bathing kids and tea and stuff as the light faded. Is there a better place for general pics (Intro secition?) When did the facelift happen as mine was reg March 2001 Quite like that rear spoiler thing though.. not sure I have one of them
  13. They aren't cheap are they (fresh back from ebaying!) - I might just buy the powdercoated mesh and cut it/fab it myself. How hard can it be (although no idea what holds it in there!) no rush though as I said. only had the car a week! :-) - Service first. aesthetics later - as it doesn't look bad as is.
  14. Hoorah - it is. Massively shorter URL as well to the new post!
  15. Sure - if you set a date or a range of dates let me know - only about 35 mins there from me - or anywhere between here and there is good.. Ringwood etc Basically would like to hear of local meet ups. Let me know if passing through Salis-b
  16. yeah I saw those.. look nice but no rush as the black on black I have looks ok thanks for welcome
  17. Hello Not sure who is mod here - but when I get an email notification (when someone comments on a subscribed post) the link in the email that says 'the topic is here' - doesn't take me to the topic - it takes me to the main forum page is that by design or not working properly - as its a pain to navigate to the topic all the time when a link could take you straight to your post of interest?
  18. whats the best way to post a pic - then I can show you :-)
  19. I wouldn't have a clue.. how would one tell that?
