  1. I have Been sharing my wife's car for some years so this was a basic premium with no NCD. I looked around the various websites including the one on the Jaguar owners club and premiums were coming in at £1200. I'm probably going to shift from Churchill next year, when I'll have two years NCD, I don't know if you noticed but the underwriters have changed. Cheers, Alastair
  2. I think the best thing you can do about this is to phone and ask a main distributor, it will not be cheap I can promise you that, my wife lost the keys for her little Skoda Fabia and they were talking £250 to change the locks and issue new keys. It's a very scary situation to be in, because it means that if you've lost one set of keys or their missing anybody can walk down a row of cars and push the button and see which car unlocks. That then has the further implications with your insurance company if your car is stolen it was not stolen by force or deception and they probably will not pay up – – in fact I bet you that is written somewhere in your insurance policy. My advice is to get this resolved as soon as possible and be secure. I don't think that fitting a tracker is anymore financially economic very best wishes, Alastair :)
  3. Go into "Park" if you're going to do anything at all. If you're just at traffic lights then you can stay in drive and just put your foot brake on Freewheeling in neutral is a definite no-no, automatic gearboxes work on a fluid flywheel principle and you're just going to ruin the whole thing. If you're not careful. Alastair

  5. Invariably, I put my details as a new customer with my existing insurer, I'm getting my Jaguar comprehensive for £500 at the moment with Churchill, but it's a £600 excess. Best Alastair
  6. I bought one from the advertised retailer on this site, and it works absolutely fantastically. If you buy the genuine Jaguar one I think it's £250 which is just extortion. Just take the old disk out, (I saved mine) put the new disc in, the firmware update everything and copes with the new disc – – – a very substantial saving
  7. I thought I'd share this with you, it happened to me this weekend and I was going to go out in the car, opened the front gate and looked at the front of the vehicle which is a Jaguar XJ sovereign 09 year, and saw a circle of black greeny stuff immediately in the centre underneath the radiator. I panicked at first and thought that the radiator was leaking, then thought it might be something else and eventually ended up ringing Jaguar assistants who turned out in about an hour. The technician who came was extremely good with what he did and apparently there is this plate under the front of the vehicle which is called a plate, the drainage from it is incorrectly done in that the edges turn up instead of downwards to let water out. And what had happened was with the very heavy rain that we had and rain had collected and was starting to go green in there accompanied by two snails I understand. Anyway it all came to a happy ending and there was no problem. An interesting thing that he told me also was that if you get a puddle a little bit further back that looks like water that could quite possibly be from the air conditioning if the weather is extremely humid. All good information and really well carried out in the usual Jaguar professional manner.
  8. As you know I've got a Jaguar XJ sovereign 09 year and I am getting almost 40 miles per gallon on a run but very poor mileage roundabout town only about 13 mpg
  9. You're buying this car from a Jaguar dealer, in which case the warranty will be the Jaguar warranty or should be which is 12 months and also gives you Jaguar care which is the AA's side of Jaguar. There are some loopholes in the Jaguar warranty, but you could always go back to the dealer under the trade descriptions act if the worst came to the worst. :) Why not get the AA to look over the car, it's only about £80 and might give you peace of mind. I was taken in with faulty tyres and had to spend £600 to put things right, but I've enjoyed it since then Best, Alastair :)
  10. I did see a posting that someone put on about if your battery was flat and you couldn't open the boot of your vehicle, then open the bonnet and apparently there is a wire that you can link to, and use the chassis of their vehicle as the Earth. I've been unfortunate and had to rest up following surgery for 5 weeks and went out to my XJ6 sovereign and the battery was flat. I phoned Jaguar care who came and the boot it did open and they just linked up and suggested that I ran the car for an hour on the drive after it had been started up. I asked if it was possible to use a trickle charger and was told that that was not recommended. However I spoke to my local Jaguar agent who has one of those people who knows everything about everything and he said it was absolutely fine to use a trickle charger, you have to take the bulb that lights the boot out, or you're just running things down again. That worked fine and I just charged it for 3 hours. I thought I had posted this somewhere else but I'm not terribly brilliant with technology Best, Alastair :-)
  11. I absolutely agree, and there are millions of people and spine injuries as well as damage suspensions on their vehicles. Lots of bus drivers complain of problems with their spines over the years. It's certainly not saving any fuel for the environment because everybody changes down gear as they approach speed bumps because they are either going to damage your suspension or their tyres. I did read somewhere that one MP had cleared all the speed bumps out of his city, they are a useless and expensive commodity
  12. :)My right foot and not realising the full potential of the XJ six sovereign 09. It's got over 260 pages in the drivers manual and its an awful lot to take in
  13. I have just come across this posting and had this problem myself. I call the Jaguar care team, and fortunately there was enough charge in the battery to undo the boot. What I didn't realise was that there is actually a key access under an overhang of the boot which I didn't even know was there and this overrides any of the electronic gizmos which might be stopping it from opening. It was quite weird, they gave my battery a quick charge, and then recommended that I run the engine for an hour whilst on my drive to charge up the battery and when I did say that I had a trickle charger they suggested that this was not a good idea. I spoke with the Jaguar agents and asked their opinion of it and they said a trickle charger is absolutely fine which I've given it three hours of today. The one thing you've got to do is take the light bulb out of the boot light, or you're just running the battery down as fast as your charging it. My Jaguar is an XJ six sovereign, I don't know if Steve's article just meant the ordinary XJ six? Best, Alastair :)
  14. Yes thanks ever so much for the stickers Steve, arrived safe and sound March 7 on the window "Loud and Proud" Cheers, Alastair :-)

  16. Hi there, I have an XJ six diesel sovereign, it's 2009, and it's smooth as silk changing right from first to top gear, you can actually feel it change gear but it's very very slight indeed. If you're getting really bad clunks, I would get it seen to sooner rather than later Best, Alastair
  17. I'm afraid it's a bit late in the day markc, but many thanks for the location and name of the supplier that you got your tyres from – – I shall keep that the Mac my mind when the two utility tyres at the rear decide to die Best, Alastair
  18. I`ve taken the plunge and ordered a car cover, I had the choice of a half cover or the full cover and I went for "Just Jaguar" as they are secured round the very front and back bumpers and many others are underneath the actual car which doesn't suit the situation for my Jaguar. I was going to order and pay for it, but they are out of stock and the firm said that with a hard winter probably coming on things have just gone totally "crazy" and they've never had so much business in their lives. Anyway I've ordered and will pay when they come into stock – – – I've gone for the full cover with the thought that the batteries for the vehicle are underneath the boot. Best, Alastair :)
  19. Will this affect my XJ which is an 09 ? Luxury car company Jaguar is recalling almost 18,000 cars due to a cruise control problem. The problem affects diesel-engined X-type models from 2006 to 2010 and relates to the fact that "in some circumstances the cruise control may not respond to the normal inputs". Letters received by customers say that in some circumstances the cruise control, if engaged, cannot be disengaged in the normal manner. Turning the ignition off will cancel the cruise control function, the letter said. A total of 17,678 Jaguar cars in the UK are involved in the recall. A Jaguar spokesman said: "This potential problem was spotted by one of our employees. No customer has been affected and there had been no accidents or injuries." 20. It does just say X and I have an XJ 09 so will it affect me? Best Alastair
  21. Hi folks, I would appreciate some advice here. I'm currently enjoying my first Jaguar ever an XJ6 sovereign diesel, I bought it in May this year and it's a 2009. I don't have a garage big enough for it to fit in so it lives on the drive and doesn't get out every week as I'm retired, rapidly approaching the age of 75. I'm just wondering whether it's worth buying a cover to go over the vehicle if it's going to be a very bad winter as the last one was and there might be problems with starting as it doesn't get out on long regular trips. I know my brother-in-law cosets his Jaguar in a nice warm garage with heating switched on and all sorts but this is going to be living out in the real world. Any advice please?

  23. To be quite honest, I've made up my mind that I didn't want compensation as such, the message that will go back to the dealer if he ever communicates with me again is that I will never buy another Jaguar from them, and no Jaguar of mine will ever go through their workshop. I remain financially independent of them. I'm not quite sure if we should be naming and shaming dealers on here, I'm quite prepared to do so Best, Alastair
  24. Make sure you do read the small print on the insurance – – – if you taking protests arrived it will "blow your socks off", I fell in love with mine on the first test drive Best, Alastair :-)
