  1. Last week my key fob ran out of power and I had to use it manually. This did annoy be somewhat as I had to change the battery in the key fob- I did this myself about 5 months ago, spending a whole £1 in Poundland for two Batteries and one has failed — So much for Kodak. Duracell cost about £5 for two batteries and give a longer life - over two years. I found a company on eBay called Buy a Battery where I ordered a Duracell a 2 pack for £1.24 0n the 21st July which arrived on the 22nd July at a total cost of £2.98. I will buy batteries there now — BuyaBattery -Unit 8 Southgate Industrial Park, Heywood, Lancs — or BuyaBattery.co.uk.
  2. Hi Tim, and welcome to the club. I understand what you are saying, and I can think about London driving and the computer giving a result. The computer will keep a full record for a journey and journeys. If you want each journey's detailed mpg you will have to cancel each journey at the end. I went from Sutton Coldfield to Sheffield some years ago starting with a blank range. The journey out was mostly on motorways/duel carriageways with the M1 all 50 mph due to work on there Motorway. The 89 miles showed 50.2 mpg. Cancelled! The return journey on a different route [M1 and M42] showed a result of 46 mpg as I was driving mostly at 70mph. Hope this helps. Regards, Peter.
  3. Welcome to the club, Phil. I have had my s type for just over 8 years and can only say that Sir William Lyons was absolutely correct when he said that Jaguars had Grace, Space and Pace. Lovely to drive and still gets a head turn occasionally. Regards, Peter.
  4. Hi Mark, and welcome to the club. The XJ is the top off the range Jaguar, and was used by Royalty as well as Senior members of the government and still is. I was offered one 8 years ago that had been used by the Queen but I have an an L shaped drive and my s type carefully misses the bay window, which the xj could not do. Yes I would take the car to a good Jaguar mechanic and have all the fluids including the il in both engine and gearbox - a good car needs a good meal as it were. My s type has done 87,000 miles and is a very smooth drive and it does get the treatment every year and it is only 14 years old. It sound a real good buy. Regards, Peter.
  5. Hi Julie, It took two years and a lot of research. You will find it on "Transporterama". Trevor Catt, JOC Admin is there! Regards, Peter.
  6. Welcome to the club, Michael, The Austin A40 Farina was my second car and was capable of doing 65mph on the flat. Various company cars followed that and eventually I had two Jaguars, an x type and an S Type - both great cars. I am a Jaguar enthusiast and even wrote a book about Jaguars and those that designer them. Enjoy. Regards, Peter.
  7. Hi Julie, The answer is yes. I bought the leather paint for mt light gray seats, the cleanser for the seats and other leather areas, plus the long service for the seats etc. Not too expensive, either. I tried to put two photos on but there was a snag. Regards, Peter.
  8. Welcome to the club, Shaun. You appear to have correctly got a new battery. Does the park brake message arrive when the park brake is working properly? If so, it just needs removing by an OBD2 code reader. The other slight question is that have you reset your radio, your windows, your other settings etc Regards, Peter.
  9. Hi Gary, I have used a Wynns EGR ceaner with some success but for the last five yearsI have used Millers ECO Max Diesel Power which has also proved successful. I also use Shell V Plus. Regars, Peter.
  10. Hi Julie, When I was a Full time Officer of the ISTC Moffatt had to come to out London Office and never looked me in the eye. I had the last laugh, though — he dies when he was 71 with 5 people at his funeral. I iiked the x type with the 2.5 all wheel engine but I wanted the s type from when I saw the Mk2 model at my friends garage in thersixties. I got mine in June 2013 and have been most impressed. Regards, Peter
  11. It Is a small world, Julie. I left there in 1970 having had a "disagreement" with Brian Moffat. I was the Staff Branches Senior official and he was later the Chairman of British Steel. He didn't like me so I decided to take the offer of a job with the IRTC Trade Union. I was there occasionally in the 1990's as the union's Regional Secretary. Peter.
  12. Hi Julie, I look after my s Type and have had the same mechanic for 20 years. He has now retired and told me of another good mechanic who gave it a service and the MOT passed with with honours last week. I used to have an X type 2.5 engine and manual gearbox - a great car that was stolen from me. I managed to give the police a very goo description and all three of them managed to get some free accommodation for 8 years. I lived in Shotton for 8 years while I worked at the Steelworks in the hey day. Regards, Peter.
