THE generic "Supermarket Petrol" , what is the truth.
Hi John, My s type has a Diesel engine and I think diesel in a supermarket does not meet with the correct fuel for a Jaguar. However, a Jaguar with a petrol engine can use any reasonable petrol. Peter.

THE generic "Supermarket Petrol" , what is the truth.
Hi, John. I have been advised by good mechanics to use the best quality fuel. So I have used Shell V Power after having my S type for less than a year. I am 87 now and it has taken much of my pension! Peter.

EGR Valves.
Hi John, A deep clean of catalyst appears to be using a system of cleaning out the exhaust all the way up to the valves. It appears that there are several experts with the correct fluid to put in and run the exhaust for an hour or two. That is just what the novice [I am only 87] gets to know. But it worked! My car is a diesel[ When I next see my mechanic I will find out more. Regards, Peter.

EGR Valves.
A problem with EGR valves came to S Type 2.7D recently. I corrected ir using an additive which did not last very long and the AA Engineer using an OBD2 found that it was one of the EGR Valves required cleaning. I referred this to my regular mechanic who took my car awayto fix it. He rang back about three hours later telling me that "The catalyst was blocked causing back pressure which he had regenerated." EGR valve amber light gone and the engine was working correctly. This sounds quite easily done and £50 was on the invoice. BUT there was a recommendation — The system needed a deep carbon clean. The exhaust was 15 years old [a for life sates steel exhaust] can still get some carbon inside. Diesel catalyst deep clean — an 8 hour job was the answer and the result was a total cure. — Price for two mechanics - £200. My s type with 88.008 miles on the clock has now given me the smoothest drive and the best acceleration I have had in the 9 years I have had the car. Cleaning the exhaust should last 15 tears. [I hope I last that many years!]

S Type Key Fob not working
Hi Robert, It appears that your key fob has worn out the buttons. You can get replacements for under a tenner from e Bay and the batteries replaced by following the rule in your book. Batteries easy. CR2032 cost £1 at Poundland. All very easy to fit. Peter

New member south coast
Hi Mark, and welcome to the club. Working for the company must be interesting - I wrote a book about the Company and the cars it made. It was a very interesting period in my life. It could be that you would write a better one than me! Regards, Peter.

Diagnosis over £1000 ?
Hi William, I have had similar faults on my S type 2.7 diesel - it seems to hold on to those previous sudden faults. I just connect my OBD2 code reader and delete them. Peter.

Restricted performance when accelerating - intermittent (back again)
Hi Gary, I am in a similar position and did a drive this morning to see if I could get rid of the Yellow warning light. I didn't get rid go it and my OBD2 said "No Codes." I will buy a better one! The AA engineer was able to find the code which was P0404 — the EGR valves need cleaning. Good Luck, Peter.
