  1. Hi Tony, Most ancillary bits are often common across many car ranges. Things like wheels, radiators, braking systems are just the same as tyres, carpets, etc. The lad nest door has an E280 Mercedes with exactly the same wheels as my s type. No worries. Peter.
  2. Hi Harvey, I have never had a problem starting up, but my habit when starting the car on any occasion is to switch on the ignition and then wait till all the lights go off before starting the engine. Also I treat the engine very easily at first -- made a bit easy for me as I am able to reverse the car on the driveway to a position where I can drive out into the road, which I cannot do quickly as the road is relatively busy and it is a few minutes before I actually get going. Add to that, the road is a thirty MPH area for a few miles. Regards, Peter.
  3. I lifted up the bonnet to get to the passenger side, Richard. The driver's side was easy. The XJ and the s type are fairly similar in parts, but different in size!
  4. Just a guess, Richard, but when I did it on my s type the part holding the blade clicked out when a little force was exercised. Peter.
  5. Welcome to the club, Riz, My disc would not come out unless the ignition was on either on my s type. They are exactly the same system. On the question of the heater being on I would suspect a faulty switch. Regards, Peter.
  6. Hi Tony, Your s type has the same screen as my x type. My phone would not pair with it either, But you don't have to take ou the sim card from your phone. There is no slot for it. If you have the owners manual you will have the instructions. You can download owners manuals, but I can copy them onto the site if you don't manage to do that. Regards, Peter.
  7. Hi Matthew, I think a new battery might well be the answer. Peter.
  8. Hi Tony, Has your s type got the touch screen? That is a different system slightly yuan the other display. Peter.
  9. Hi Tony, And welcome to the club. The sim card should remain in the mobile phone and all you need to do is to pair the phone with the car. I am assuming that Bluetooth is fitted and you phone bluetooth is switched on. I will contact Steve at Admin re the club sticker. Regards, Peter.
  10. Hi Jon, and welcome to the club. The Club is about sharing our collective experiences and knowledge, plus the odd bit of polite banter. I am just a bit south of you in Mere Green, Sutton Coldfield, and own an S Type of the same colour. Regards, Peter.
  11. Hi Lyndsay, If I was closer I would do it for you, but a round trip of we'll ever 200 miles is a bit far from this old guy. I wish you good luck and hope that you have a great day and great happiness together. Regards, Peter.
  12. Hi Allen, I am fairly mystified as to what has occurred. I have heard that if the battery has been disconnected for some time, the ECU needs a ten mile drive to wake it up, but you car won't fire up so you can't do that. Is the battery fully charged and in good condition and does the Radio work are two questions. I don't know a great deal about the XK, but the engine is the same one as in my s type so I would ask the other questions - are the glow plugs working ok - light coming on - and is the fuel pump working? Good luck, Peter.
  13. A mystery to me, James. But when we moved here 32 years ago I found a curious item in the garage, and took it to a car boot sale. A chap asked me if I knew what it was, so told a little pork, and said Yes. He offered me a fiver for it and I asked him if he knew what it was and he said yes. I asked for tenner for it and he seemed delighted! Someone will know, though. Peter.
  14. Hi Tony and welcome to the club. I don't think it will the last Jaguar that you will buy. Great cars, Regards, Peter.
  15. Hi Anthony, I also have a 2.7 diesel and these cars pull very well. I gave mine a Terraclean service about 6 months ago and it made the world of a difference and well worth the £120. I was also advised not to use supermarket fuel. I stopped using it and such with the local Shell station, and every now and then gave the engine a taste of the expensive stuff. Regards, Peter.
  16. Hi ian, Just a guess, but it should. They didn't do much in the way of change then. Peter.
  17. Hi Matthew, The socket is on the drivers side about knee high at the left side of the footwell. Once you have found it, you will never forget it. My s type is the 2007 D, but I don't think they would have changed the location. If Stan reads this, he will be able to confirm this or otherwise. Peter.
  18. Hi David, and welcome to the club. That system has always worked for me and others. Is your battery fully charged? Have you got a Homestart in your breakdown assistance which could be a help. I would be inclined to have another go first before contacting a garage, or doing any work on it yourself. I am not a mechanic but just an experienced driver. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
  19. Welcome to the Club, Simon. That is some car you have bought. I think a lot of members would like to see some pictures. Regards, Peter.
  20. Mudflaps do protect the sills very much. Mine cost £50 - genuine Jaguar part -- and my mechanic fitted them for £20. Well worth the money.
  21. A logical decision, Stephen. I love my S Type and it will probably be my last car --- if it stays working properly. I am 80 now but fit and more or less well, although the moving parts need a squirt of WD40 now and then. The XF is a very nice car and although I don't think it looks as good as the S Type, it has the look of a Jaguar --- I think we all have to accept that styling has to change. Regards, Peter.
  22. Hi Keith, and welcome to the club. My s type has had this happen to me on a few occasions. The first time I called out the recovery service from Britannia Rescue, snd the guy said he knew nothing about modern cars. Britannia rescue was cancelled. We discovered by googling the issue that you can release a stuck handbrake by disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes and then reconnecting it, which allows the onboard computer to reset. You will need to have your radio code ready to reset your other settings. You will then need to press the footbrake --- there will be an instruction on the message centre -- and handbrake. That will complete the reset without any need to spend money. I had to buy two new spanners as all my spanners were imperial rather than metric! I keep those two spanners in the glovebox! Regards, Peter.
  23. Hi Gary, Glad you are enjoying your Jaguar. You can reset you MPG quite easily by pressing the button at the end of the left hand stem on the steering wheel and the reset button on the right hand side instrument cluster. Handbook 106/107. And always keep you climate control on auto [except when you have the "defrost" button on which will only be for a minute or two when the auto will switch off automatically and will need switching back on when the car is demisted. There is a lot of reading in the handbook! Has your car got the touch screen display? Peter.
  24. Welcome to the Club, Neil. The x type is a very good car -- I had a 2005 X type 2.5 SE. Well appointed and very good looking cars. Regards Peter.
  25. Welcome to the Club, Mike. I wish mine was sitting there too. Mine is not as shiny as usual, but she has only been to the Supermarket in the rain! Regards and enjoy, Peter.
