  1. Hi Alan, and welcome to the club. I am with you on personalised plates. I don't think getting back to the original ones is too hard. My son bought a car for £450 with personalised plates and sold then to someone named J600 for £200. I would just ring the DVLA, as well as putting the plates up for sale. Regards, Peter.
  2. It is worth trying, Steve.
  3. Welcome to the club, Martin. The x type is a very nice car and it won't be the last Jaguar you will own, Enjoy. Regards, Peter.
  4. Hi Steve, Welcome to the club. Tracing a car from almost 30 years ago is difficult. I have been looking at sites selling tyres and they always want the reg no of the car. That might be worth trying to see if the car is still on the road. That would be a start, and then you could try the DVLA. Good Luck, Peter.
  5. I am glad about that, Harvey. The s type 2.7D is a well engineered car but like all diesels will perform better when the engine is clean. Regards, Peter.
  6. Hi Ruzaini and welcome to the Club. The F type looks great in Red and the black wheels complement the colour. Enjoy your Jaguar. Regards, Peter.
  7. I had a tyre check about a month ago, to confirm my own check, and the rear tyres have plenty of miles left on them. The front tyres had 2.6mm on one tyre and 3.2mm on the other. I have decided to change the front tyres next month and am doing the usual check for best price. I currently have Pirelli P Zero Assimetrico with a Y rating which are priced at around £150 each. However, I have also seen a PZero with a Z rating, which should not be used if you intend to drive over 150mph. They are priced at about £130. The Y rated tyres are good for up to 186mph. Has anyone had experience of Z rated tyres? Peter.
  8. I am really looking forward to seeing the finished car. Just a suitable location in Cheshire for a meet. Peter
  9. I have heard that too Phillip. Some two stroke oil and a splash of a Millers additive.
  10. Hi David, The s type 2.7D and the 3.0 litre petrol are both very good towcars. A member named Margaret had a towbar fitted a year or so ago, and if she spots this she will give you her experience, Regards, Peter.
  11. That is something I missed from my Tom Tom as used in previous cars, Calum. But being without it does keep you alert while driving. Peter.
  12. Hi Gary, My temperature gauge sits on exactly half way, but I have had cars where the gauge sits about a third up. I have had cars of the same make [11 Ford Escorts when I had company cars] and each one had a slight difference. If the car is running well, and the climate control is working I would not worry too much about it. Regards, Peter.
  13. Hi Jon, It cost me £120, but I think the 4 cylinder engine is a bit cheaper. But that was in May last year. But I did find a big difference, even though the engine [V6 2.7D] had only done 34k --- I was replaced under warranty by Jaguar at 21k miles while it was still owned by Jaguar. Regards, Peter.
  14. Hi Jon, James Price - Mobile mechanic, did a good job for me with the Terraclean service. The engine was so smooth and performance better by about 5 mpg. Peter.
  15. Hi Steve and welcome to the Club. A lot of faults there that would delight a main dealer! IF you took it there. Personally, I would look to trade it in for maybe a later s type. They are great cars, and the later models are still plentiful. Regards Peter.
  16. Welcome to the Club, Calum. I am still enjoying my S Type, but I do agree that the Sat Nav does seem a bit lacking as against the Tom Tom. But I do rather like it. Doris is far more polite than the Tom Tom I had! Regards, Peter.
  17. Hi Andrew, and welcome to the Club. There are various audible warnings on start up, but my handbook for the s type only mentions a chime or tone. The only thing I can guess at is Memory configuration saved. But that is for an s type. But x type owners might be able to give some more concrete answers. Regards, Peter.
  18. Hi Gary, I am advised that the branded fuel, Shell, Esso, BP etc has various additives that suit performance engines whereas supermarket fuel has not. Some drivers put various additives in the fuel themselves. I am assuming at your car is powered by the 2.7 diesel as is mine in which I got 53 mpg on a mixed roads drive of almost 100 miles in which the motorway was speed limited to 50 mph. The return journey showed 49 mph when I was able to give the car a bit more speed. Regards, Peter.
  19. Hi All, Some great and very helpful posts in the last few days. Keep it up, guys. Peter.
  20. I am hoping the DIY skin graft works!
  21. Welcome to the Club, Louisa, A nice new big battery is called for as Trevor has said. I have limited typing skills at the moment due to an altercation with a mandolin and a carrot. Peter.
  22. Welcome to the Club, Bezza. The x type is a very good car -- I had a 2.5SE before I got my s type. You enjoy your Jaguars, and I hope you enjoy the Club. Regards, Peter
  23. Hi Dan, and welcome to the club. I am somewhat mystified, but I have seen somewhere that when this happened and the car was going into limp mode that the culprit was a faulty sensor. Perhaps there will be other members who will be able to help. Regards, Peter.
  24. Welcome to the club, Mike. Battery charging: My s type Owners manual says that you should disconnect and remove the battery before commencing the charge. And then connect to the positive and negative leads to the respective terminals. I have only had to charge the battery once, and being as it is stuck in the boot and quite heavy, I just connected the charger leads to the battery and switched on. I charged for about 20 minutes on quick charge which had it fully charged. Had the battery needed a longer charge I would have taken it out completely as instructed. When using the jump leads, the positive lead should connect to the positive battery terminal and I believe that the negative terminal should be connected to a suitable earth point in the car. Regards, Peter.
  25. Hi Luvneet, and welcome to the club. There is a topic in the Jaguar Owners Lounge on the site where you will find a list of recommended independent garages. There is also a club member in Greater London who is the owner of a Jaguar Specialist garage. I would avoid having to pay £140 for an hours labour at a main dealer when there are garages just as good who charge much less. The s type 2.7D is a very good car and all it needs to keep it happy is a good run and a blast or two now and then, and remember that the engine does not like supermarket fuel. Regards, Peter.
