  1. Welcome to the club, CJ. I am not a mechanic, but I have the feeling that you have a tyre problem -- either a tyre that is still with the lower pressure -- it could be losing pressure gradually, or is a faulty tyre. It could also be something wrong with the steering. Regards, Peter.
  2. Hi Wallace and welcome to the club. Any second hand car can be examined to see if the previous owner/s had properly cared for it. If you are looking for an F Pace the one you shown seemed very good value, but I don't think you could get one like that in the UK for that price. I bought my s type from a main dealer 7 years ago and have had only the odd small problem. Keep on looking till you have what you want, and then examine it carefully. Regards, Peter.
  3. Welcome to the club, Dave. The s type, in my opinion, is a future classic. Many Jaguar owners would like to see an S type Mark 4 produced by Jaguar. I think it would sell. My 13 year old s type will gets a few heads turning. Enjoy both the JOC as well as your car. Regards, Peter.
  4. Welcome to the club, Jim. You have a great series of Jaguar cars. I think the club will enjoy your experience. Regards, Peter. P.S. I would have liked your experience when I was writing my book.
  5. Hi Henry, I have had 50.2 mpg on dual carriageways and the M1 [to Sheffield] when there was a 50 mph limit, and 46.7 on the return journey when the standard 70 mph was allowed. My s type is the V6 2.7 diesel. Your 32 mpg was pretty good for a Petrol car. Peter.
  6. Hi David and welcome to the club. Have you got an owners manual? There are very good instructions on how to connect a mobile phone. The other question i would ask is "Has the car got Bluetooth and is the 'phone bluetooth switched on?" The car has got to recognise the phone. Regards, Peter.
  7. Hi Henry, There is a company in Scotland that refurbished gearboxes and are very helpful. They might be worth a chat over the phone to give you some advice. Peter.
  8. Welcome to the club, Dave. It's good when there are people who know what they are doing. I hope you enjoy the club as well as your Jaguar. Regards, Peter.
  9. Hi Henry, I wish you good luck with your intentions. I do have the same model as you but a bit newer - SE 2007 - and with a very good XF gearbox, which I do like, and being somewhat older than you I do not want to change it. My first car was a Triumph Herald in 1965 when I was 31 and I do have some experience with mechanics, but 30 years of company cars when any work had to be done by main dealers means that I now know very little about the technical side of a car. I wanted ands type when I saw a friend restoring a Mark1 in 1963 but I had to wait until 2013 before I got the cat I now have. The 3 speed gearbox with double declutching meant that I looked forward to synchromesh and then the first auto box in 2001 [4 speed]. So now a mechanic does all my work! Again, good luck, and keep us informed, Regards, Peter.
  10. Welcome to the club, Chris. The short answer is that the battery can stay in situ. The best charger to get is the Cetek, which can get connected to the battery and remain in the boot. I am very satisfied with mine and in this period of lockdown when my car is hardly used if charge the battery every week. I have a socket outside the garage and it makes things very easy Regards, Peter.
  11. Hi Mark, That is a good record. I have had my cars serviced and repaired for the has 19 years by a mobile mechanic who had his full training by a local Main dealer for both Rover and Jaguar. He has looked after my cars [and my wife's cars] for 19 years. Regards, Peter. P.S. We are both from Merseyside, and just migrated to Sutton Coldfield via North Wales and Derbyshire.
