  1. In 1946 when the Second World War had just ended, I was 10 years old and, having seen an SS Jaguar for the first time, I announced that "I would have a Jag when I was old enough to drive"! It took longer than intended but I eventually achieved my ambition in 2002 when I was 65 when I bought an ex-demo 3.0 Litre S Type with 4000 miles on the clock. From the outset this has been a "head turning" car maybe because of its unusual colour (Roman Bronze) and partly because of its 18 inch wheels. Whatever the reason, I have had, and still get, regular compliments from complete strangers. The car has no less than 61,000 miles on the clock as it enters its 12th year in my ownership and I have to say "It was worth the wait"

I was 77 when I bought my first Jaguar, a Radiance Red X Type 2.5 litre AWD.  When I was car -jacked I bought an S-Type in Indigo blue with the 2.7 Diesel engine.  As you say, well worth waiting for.

  2. Hi, I drive a newly acquired 'W' reg. S Type, 3.0ltr SE auto...which has a plastic lens cover for the headlights - completely separate to the headlight assembly. Question is...how do I get the cover off to clean it? Had a good look & can't see a way of removing the cover without going to a lot of trouble - does anybody know the way to remove the cover in order that I can clean it?

My 2007 S type appears to be the same, but I think they are a Jaguar standard fitting.  There are instructions in the handbook [Page 121] which tells you how to set the lights up for continental use which involves removing the outer cover.  Apparently a Jaguar dealer will supply a conversion kit.

Has your car got a headlamp washer?  Mine keeps them clean OK.

  3. Triumph Herald

    Austin A 40

    Austin 1100

    then company cars

    Ford Escorts 1.3L 1971 - 2001

    Austin Maestro 1.3l

Austin Maestro 1.6L [Great little car]

    Austin Montego 1.6l 1987 - 1993

    Rover 418 [diesel]  Great car]

    Rover 420 [diesel]  Great Car

Toyota Avensis 1.8GL Garish Upholstery, Terrible roadholding, and totally underpowered.

    Then company cars ended:-

Rover 825 Sterling for 11 years. 1999 model. Lovely car, all the bells and whistles. Great automatic gearbox and solid K series engine.  It just got old.

Jaguar x type - in Radiance Red 2.5l AWD SE Petrol.  Got car jacked off my drive.

Jaguar S type  2.7L Diesel SE Auto.  My pride and joy. Beautiful car, and at almost 80, probably the last car I will own.

  4. I only have £3000 to spend though

There are plenty around, but with big mileages.  I got an s type in June with 48k on the clock but it cost £9.500.  But the diesel is very quiet and with great acceleration, and the mpg is brilliant. If you keep the revs under 2000 you should get over 45mpg on a long run.
