Remember you get what you pay for. Jag prices vary considerably depending on condition and service history. If you want a decent 05 XType you wont get much change out of 4k. Anything cheaper and your asking for trouble. Glyn

Hi Craig As Peter says I get around 350 miles to a full tank with my 2.5 V6 automatic. I would imagine that you would get slightly better fuel consumption with a manual but that all depends on how you drive. Although the car is very capable of fast speeds and beating most cars off the lights I tend to drive in a more sedate pace not having anything to prove and therefore get better economy. Both the 2.1 and the 2.5 engines are pretty bullet proof, and looked after will last for the life of the car. Regards Glyn

Welcome Craig I'm the proud owner of a 2.5 V6 SE XType and wouldn't trade it for the world. As long as you keep it well serviced it should give you many years of trouble free luxury motoring. I previously owned a 1600 Focus Ghia and the fuel consumption with the Jag is as good if not better. Hope this helps Glyn (Hate cyclists)

Hi Ken I also worked for Crown house at LLanwern on No3 Blast furnace and in the Steel plant before working as a shift electrician for BSC in the Steel plant then I moved down to Plymouth and worked for Crown House in the Navy dockyard new submarine complex. I had a couple of companies in Newport called Lightwaves Elec' and Lightwaves Leisure Services both mainly doing work for pubs and night clubs. Regards Glyn

Hi everyone I didn't think this topic would get this far (I only asked why Trevor should be means tested) It's obviously opened a can of worms and you feel passionate about. The trouble these days is that youngsters want to start at the top and are not prepared to work there way up. They don't seem to realize that there is more to a decent job than academic qualifications, you have to have the experience to go with it. I left school at fifteen on the Friday and started work as an apprentice electrician on the Monday. My first weeks wages were 10s 6p in old money probably equates to about £30 in todays money. How many youngsters would do that today. It was another five years before I completed my apprenticeship having gone to tech on day release one day a week and one evening in my own time to become an electrician and another two years experience before I became approved. I went on to work as a shift electrician at Llanwern steel works and GKN Tremorfa and a time at Plymouth with the MOD before starting my own companies. I used to advertise in the local job centre and paper for all types of jobs from admistrative to electricians and was always amazed at the little response I got from younger people. Regards Glyn

Trevor You forgot the drugs, unmarried mothers and immigrants and they've got the cheek to say that pensioners are a burden on society! They'll be taking our bus passes off us next, not that I've ever used it. Glyn

Hi All At least tractors don't travel 2 or more abreast in narrow roads. Coming down to Devon again in the spring Trevor so will arrange to meet up, I'm trying to do a bit of genealogy as my family all came from around the Exeter and North Devon area. Hi David Don't know if this helps but I had a similar problem with my first Jag (an XJ6) where it was rough when starting warm and also smoke from the exhaust pipes. It turned out to be a small sensor on the air intake, once replaced the car ran fine for about six months then the problem returned so I changed the sensor again. This worked fine until I changed the car, apparently it was a common problem. Lyn

Charles Rugby isn't just a sport it's tribal warfare between the home nations but with a fantastic atmosphere between the fans, unlike football you very rarely see any trouble between opposing fans. Hi Trevor, if I knew where you were I'd have arranged to meet up for a drink (Coke of course). Hope to come down again soon as I miss Devon having lived there for a long time in Plymouth and Exeter. Regarding variable speed limits Peter, if you ever drive down the M4 through the tunnels at Newport they've got one there which isn't obvious. It apparently gives the local council £250,000 a week in fines. Lyn

Welcome Ben I'm sure you'll enjoy your jag for many years to come and if and when you come to change it will be for another Jaguar. I've had my X Type now for just over a month and have just got back from a trip to Devon in it. It was a dream to drive, the only problem I found was having to keep an eye on the speed as you don't realize the way the speed increases. Welcome Chris I'm a newbie here myself but have had jags in the past and am glad to be back driving one again. I noticed when I had my first jag that I got waves from other Jag owners, We're all a happy bunch and why shouldn't we be. Is it right that there is no speed limit on the IOM? Glyn

Trevor I'm with you caravans should be sent north preferably the North Pole, along with cyclists, lets see how long they last in their lycra shorts up there. Coming down your way in a couple of weeks for a few days (Paignton) so look out for a grumpy old bugger driving a Jag'. Hi to all the newbies and welcome from another newbie. I haven't posted in the last few days as I've been driving around in my lovely X Type. Even my wife who's a very nervous passenger (having been in a accident in her earlier years) loves it. Amazingly I seem to be getting around 35mpg average. I had a 94geg XJ type in the past and was forever filling both tanks, what a difference! Still hate cyclists

Thanks for the tip Trevor, I'll look the web site up. I've got a Fugipix AX650 and have just learned how to get the pictures off the camera into my computer. The software which came with the camera seems ok but there doesn't appear to be much editing you can do with it, so I'll try the web site you suggest. Lyn

Thanks for all your welcomes this appears to be a really friendly site. I took my wife on a trip through the Wye Valley on Wednesday and another trip to Porthcawl yesterday. The car behaved wonderful a real pleasure to drive. I was amazed at the fuel economy it's much better than I thought it would be especially as my previous Jag was an XJ6 and I had to fill up both tanks to get from South Wales to London and the same to get back home. I've included a few photos of the car from the web site where I bought the car, I'll post a few of my own as soon as I take them (I'm new to digital photography as well) Glyn
