  1. Hi Derek

If you change your battery (which looks like a good idea) remember your radio code! the guys will tell you whether i'm right or wrong on that, I'm not too sure whether such things as seat / steering column settings will be lost?

    regards

  2. Hi Bill

i have the same S type, and my bottom LCD panel is also dim, it could be battery related, but i would think that would also affect the top screen as well? its probably just age related (not that i'm saying the older you are the dimmer you get ;) ) do you get sound through the speakers when you get a Phone call? (I am presuming you have Jag Voice or bluetooth available)

PeterW mentioned the Mute button, Volume control?? does your CD player work (give sound)

Totally agree with both your comments. We as owners of the Jaguar marque, enjoy both the car, and our experiences, and use this forum to share those experiences, ask for help and advice, and also offer help and advice if possible.

I find the site a fantastic place to learn about my car, and if possible share some of my limited knowledge from years gone by.

No one forced me to join, equally I have the right to leave if I don't like / enjoy it and its content, I would suggest this individual should excercise that freedom of choice.

    Regards

  4. Hi Rog

The battery could have a dodgy cell, which could chuck up intermittent probs, my gut instinct tells me your problem could be starter motor related, sticky motor / solenoid, or perhaps just a loose electrical connection. Next time it fails to spin, give the starter motor a sharp rap with a stout bit of wood or metal bar, and try again, you may need to do this 2 or 3 times, check the wiring, if all seems well, as Tom points out I would get the battery tested. One thing in your favour at the moment, if you get stuck somewhere, being a manual you have the option of bump starting it!

    Good luck

  5. Cheers Andy

So if I understand correctly I take out the cd unit, leaving the bottom LCD panel in place? Then using a face plate insert the new combi unit? If I have that bit correct so far, I presume all connections are generic / standard I.e. Power / antenna / speakers? or do I need to modify the connections in someway?

  6. Not to sure on the Radio code, but i presume you would need to contact a Jag dealer / Indy, possibly may need to provide proof of ownership as well? I guess a simple phone call would answer that.

I was lucky, I found the code printed on a garage receipt when the battery was replaced before i bought her, Happy days!

  7. Hi Andy

Very much appreciate your help on this.

I'm going to apologise now, as this may get painful  do i need to buy a combi radio / cd unit, take out the lower section with all its buttons etc, get a Fiesta faceplate and then somehow plug it in to the car and existing speaker connectors? if memory serves the lower LCD screen also has displays regarding the phone, which i presume relates to the jaguar one if fitted, i cant off the top of my head remember what else uses that lower LCD panel, i'm at work so can't check

my Apologies to Christopher also, as i'm not meaning to hi-jack your post

    Steve
