I stopped using a garage because I never got a thank you, I went into Halfords for the last time last night because I asked where the cable ties were because I was in a rush to do a job before it got dark and just got a pointed finger and a grunt, anyway I never wanted to pay £ 4 quid for 8 ties when I can get 200 for that.
£4 for 8cable ties,That's extortion! I blame the price charged since women started reading 50 Shades Of Grey

Hi,
Leaving aside the debate as to whether putting the leaping jaguar on a late model car will cause it to fail an MOT.
I seem to remember that models such as the S TYPE have pre-drilled holes in the under bonnet area.
Does anyone know if the XK has them?
Thanks.
Graham.
Hi Graham. Me nether have any idea as to any holes in the frame skin under the XK bonnet. If any their either be under the striker or just behind it in the frame maybe marked with a dot? Wherever you decide to mount it? There needs to be a minimum of 45mm clearance between the outer bonnet skin and any obstruction under? The holes sizes are 17.5mm for the leaper spring and if you need a hole in the frame that will be 40mm for the nylon nut to pass through. Best if possible not to use the round plinth S type style but the longer plinth style as supplied by Jaguar for the XF & XJ models as this benefits from an extra pin and the plinth is stronger + spreads the load more even (Suggest before buying, Make a template using card of the slope in the XK bonnet above where mounting and check this with the slope on a pre face lift XF as the plinths are slightly shaped for the XF & XJ bonnet slope) I suggest whatever style you decide on? To buy only genuine Jaguar! ( There's some on eBay at £55) And be prepared for the boys in blue to give you a free road side MOT. Print and keep in the glove box EC Directive 74/483 Part 6: Bonnet ornaments 6.1.1. and shove that under there nose if they start to get stroppy. And even then you could be given a ticket as I had once for a dealer fitted leaper on my old XF. I went to court and pleaded not guilty to having a dangerous bonnet ornament and after the police had read all the technical 'ins & outs' to the magistrates I produced an email from Jaguar UK confirming that there leaper ornament conforms wholly to EC Directive 74/483 will depart from the plinth below a force of 10 dAN if struck by an object and the case was dismissed and I was awarded costs. And that's reason I advise on >Genuine Jaguar< As although aftermarket leapers are on a spring you cannot prove at what force the cable and tag holding the leaper would part company with the plinth?

Hi all,
Just bought a 2012 xf 3.0 v6, and thinking about upping the power, Avon auto clinic, apparently for £225 can do a stage 1 on it and up it to 325 hp.
Is this a good idea? Can the gearbox take it? Is it likely to invalidate the warranty? Anybody used Avon auto?
thanks
brett
If Bought from a main Jaguar then it would invalidate there approved 2 year warranty. The ECU on these models needs to be opened to enable a remap..Servicing can't tell if its been remapped Just if they do a test drive might spot the extra power..As your not the 1st owner and any problems just act as the install date is not readable. Yes the 8 speed gearbox will take that small torque increase..£225 seems cheap! I always use Quantum Tuning and a home visit will cost around £360 but the map is rewrote buy sending the EUC data to there HQ and about an hour later a map is returned to suit the your actual vehicle and not a generalised one map will suite all 3.0s diesels.

Hi all,
I have purchased spring loaded mascot for my bonnet, I was wondering is there a standard distance from the front of the bonnet to set it?
Thanks
Gareth.
140mm back from the grille. On the bonnet under side there's a hole just behind the bonnet pin & spring, Drill the center there. (check 1st the nylon nut fits the hole) Suggest you print a copy of EC Directive 74/483 and keep it in the glove box, For when those interceptor guys are feeling bored and decide to give you a free road side MOT.

Thanks for the reply Joe it's a 2004 2.5 litre
It is an odd one, no gurgling noises from what I hear but i'll keep an ear out for it. The pressure in the system this morning was normal when I opened the expansion whereas previously even when cold the pressure was up. This was before the work completed obviously.
Good call re the compression test, we did have a coil replaced so maybe this could indicate others are on their way out? i'm not sure if that will make a difference or not i'm not very techie...
Can the cap leak when the pressure is up? it is new but from what I understand they aren't the best and most reliable caps in the world
Thanks matey

That would certainly be a method of operation Paul but according to the wiring diagram, the switch in the overhead console merely applies a 12 volt supply direct to the blind.
That made me think that the control circuitry would be in the motor assembly, requiring a 12 volt momentary pulse and cycling either upwards or downwards as required.
@ Garry: There is no discrete relay shown in the wiring diagram which is why I expected at least a click from the vicinity of the parcel shelf, ie. within the motor assembly itself, because the wiring from the overhead console is not of sufficient capacity to handle the motor current I'd have thought. There is a separate 12 volt supply to the motor as well, according to the diagram.
I'm hoping to temporarily fit Denis' overhead console today (which has the switch) so should have a clearer picture later.
Maybe my idea was to old school I was working on the theory that it operated the same as a fabric sunroof I had on a Mk2. It could also operated like the old style semi auto radio antenna? 1 permanent feed and 1 push feed switch to go up or down

I recently bought an XE R Sport 2.0d with premium paint. I see the Jaguar brand as iconic and in Australia they are not that common. Unfortunately it has been the worst experience of my life. The car has 3 significant paint defects in the premium paint, it has a dent in the B pillar between the doors that has been painted over and the rear spoiler is fitted off center. After trying to contact Jaguar Australia for over 2 months they have finally called back to offer me a smash repairer to respray my brand new car. I said no, and they have said nothing else can be done. Jaguar Australia has effectively sold me a factory second at a new car price and are now laughing at me.
I'm not happy that Jaguar have kicked an own goal by allowing all these defects to slip through, but to be treated like a nobody by Jaguar Australia with little contact and this is what we offer take it or leave it is unbelievable for such an iconic brand.
Has anybody else had such a poor experience with Jaguar.
It has turned me off so much Jaguar Australia have left me no choice but to go back and recommend to friends, family and colleagues German Cars.
You bought this as new or used car? Its pointless going straight to the manufacturer with a complaint! Your complaint is with the dealer who you bought the car from? You did not buy it directly from Jaguar!
The ACL law in Australia has been in place since January 1st 2011 which gives you legally enforceable consumer guarantees that the car is of acceptable quality? If you have what the ACL calls a major failure* you are entitled to return it to claim a refund or replacement. A major failure* is when a reasonable consumer would have NOT bought the car if they had known about the problem?
Don't let the dealer respray the car as this will be on the cars history! The dealer is using this tactic to get paid for the work by making a claim under Jaguars paint work warranty.
Go back to the dealer and firmly reject the car! Don't take any bullsh*t about going back to the manufacture! Either there living in the past or hoping that your are! Since ACL which also applies to imported cars dealers can no longer pass the buck? If the dealer fails to acknowledge ACL then notify the ACCC federal regulator for your state or territory? And maybe a local news paper would like a story.
Its not only British cars I bought a 2002 Monaro 472 once and that was a pile of

The problem with painted plastic bumpers is the colour changes more rapid with age than paint on metal and I doubt you would get a colour match just over painting the chrome trims and end up respraying the whole bumper! Looks nice as it now with the R type lower grille and just needs a chrome number plate plinth.

I've just gained an electric rear sunblind in The Princess but can't find a suitable overhead console with which to switch it.
The wiring diagrams suggest a simple SPST switch with the up / down cycling being done within the motor assembly.
I wired in just such a switch but the sunshade doesn't react to it. Not even a click. I know the sunshade is serviceable as I saw it raise and lower in the donor car, which leads me to my question.
Does anybody know whether the wiring diagram is correct, or does the switching in the overhead console do more than the simple SPST switch would suggest?
Thanks :)
I would have thought a spring loaded release and return to center off position SPDT switch if power was needed to rise and lower the blind? If it has 2 wires from the motor both would be power in and the motor fixed to metal would act as the return.

Hi everyone,
to start with, my engine has one head gasket blown and it's pushing coolant out, misfiring, white fumes out of the exhaust etc. Before starting to spend money on my old engine I am starting to think about buying a used engine directly from the UK, as there are only one or two XJR's for spares in my country. My question is, what is the price of a naked 4.0 v8 engine from 00-02 XJR would be reasonable? My car production date is August year 2000, guess it's AJ27S. Thank you in advance
VaidasHi Vaidas.I personally think you would be jumping out of the frying pan and straight into the fire! Looking to import a used AJ27S engine that would be at least 14 years old with unknown history? That you can't inspect in person and see / hear running. I would remove the heads on your engine 1st and check what's the cause of the water loss problem? If is from a Nicasil liner then the engines scrap! (if it has steel liners there should? be a tag on the rear of the engine block) Plus this engine went through a series of timing chain tensioner upgrades and the only way to tell is to remove cam covers to check it has the metal bodied tensioner as the plastic ones fail. Same with water pumps the vanes need to be metal and not plastic! These 2 items are not cheap parts to replace.

Has anyone experienced the DPF message telling you your filter is now full?
I have given the car a 25-30 min blast in 2nd gear (just on the red line edge) but the message is still there.
I called the maindealer and some guy there claimed that it required a diagnostic check to establish if the problem had actually been
cleared and it just needed a reset or worst scenario the filter needs replacing which apparently is very expensive, close to £2K I'm told.
My car is a 60 plate 3 litre diesel which due to circumstances beyond my control has been exposed to mainly town/rural driving in my
6 months of ownership. :(
Thank You....Mick.
I'll throw in my 'two pennies worth' 1st Jaguar diesel handbooks state do not use biodiesel. 2nd A pure white derv is near impossible to find at the pumps. Supermarkets thou doing nothing wrong as they have to conform to the relevant British standards blend high amounts of bio to fuels to keeps costs down. Unless your doing high speed driving each day high levels of biodiesel will eventually kill the DPF plus using a high content blend of bio will give less mpg. I always buy a branded quality diesel and not from the 'city diesel' pump plus ever 2nd tankful use a Millers diesel additive.

For my money, go remap all the way rather than these tuning boxes that just simply overfuel as has been stated.
A good quality remap would usually offer in the region of 25% increase taking you from 211bhp to around 264bhp, but it's the extra torques that you'll really notice.
Mine went from 204bhp to 246bhp and really made a noticeable difference, when driven normally ( hard to do as the extra power is addictive ) you can get in the range of 10% - 15% better fuel economy
These are the figures on mine..Went for the red map + just done a late night around trip of 180mile at 70mph on cruise control to Stansted and returned 46mpg.

Right, here we go.
Will try and make this brief, when I mentioned to one of my contractors (last year) I have just bought a Jaguar (because I'm proud to be), the response was, "Old mans" car! (What is classed as old? I don't know, but the results will speak for themselves) this has been bugging me since.
What is it with this View?
Anyhow I'm wondering what is the average age of a Jaguar owner when they 'FIRST' become an owner. Results are of course limited to members of the JOC only. So I repeat when you FIRST became an owner, not your current age.
Let's kick this off, I was 53.
i will look at responses over a period of time and do the maths.

Ok so saying you can adjust the cabin temperature using the hot and cool switches and I take it you can select the auto function switch? Its just the ice type symbol on the touch screen that controls the air con that doesn't respond. There are 2 sensors 1 behind each front lower air duct . I think? the left hand does the outside ambient temperature which you say is not showing and the right hand sensor (i'm not quite sure) is for the auto quick deice function. These sensors do corrode due to there exposed position and just un-clip to change. The only other thing I can think off is air con has discharged all its gas and preventing you from using it.

Hello, This is my first post so be gentle with me, im after a bit of advice, i have searched the forums for led and headlamp but could not see what im looking for, i have recently purchased a 2009 XFS 3.0D and love it but the headlamps are not the best and i was wondering if i could fit LED bulbs to the existing headlamp units, having looked on the internet i have then started reading about can bus errors and have reached a point where i cant find a definitive answer if i can fit them or not, im worried an ebay supplier is just going to say its fine but then the engine management light comes on and i end up with a big bill to sort it out, thanks in advance for any advice given
steve
As Tigger said Steve. I would go the route of fitting a decent known brand of Bulb which will give the desired effect as dip beam is poor on the pre face lift models, Suggest trying something like Philips xtreme vision which will give a good light increase over standard bulbs without extra heat as there's no way heat can escape from projector style units. LED bulbs run hot! LED side lamp bulbs will not fit though the hole that the long tube clips into between the high & dip beam lamps to hold them. I know the yellowish side lamp bulbs don't look that good but beware on upgrading them to pure white as I found out to my cost they melt the tube and clips! It's much less hassle to remove the headlamp units than trying to fit bulbs with the head lamp units still in place. There are 4 bolts 1 under the wing, 2 on the slam panel and 1 lower down by the grille side. Lay something soft on the ground in front of the lamp your removing. Wriggle the lamp unit gentle taking care that the part that wraps around the wing does not damage the paint, Once this is slightly forward wriggle the unit forward and slightly upwards (Care needed as the 2 plastic fittings for the slam panel are know to harden with age and snap easy!) Once the unit is free unclip the wiring loom. Suggest if memory is not that good? Take a photo of the lamp unit with the bulbs still in place! As it's easy to replace bulbs on these units upside down! Plus don't move the switch that converts to LHD lamps. Replacement is opposite to removal and suggest fitting the under wing bolt a few turns 1st as you may have to wriggle the unit to find the hole. The bolt lower down by the grille I suggest tape the bolt to the socket when replacing as if this drops your never find it again! (care needed removing also)
The only experience I had of fitting LED bulbs were to my Subaru Forester due to the dip xenon ballast HID power pack failing and Subaru high replacement cost it was cheaper to buy LED replacements. The ones I bought had built in cooling fans and but due to the size of the Bulb cover would not fit.

Sounds like number 2 bank of cylinders are getting an additional supply of un-metered air? It could be anything from the manifold gasket failed to any fittings & pipes (not forgetting the brake booster pipe) on the manifold allowing air to be sucked in.You could try an none combustible liquid, Like liquid soap & water around gaskets and see if any is being sucked in? The only other thing I can think off is the exhaust sensor.

I have reported a clunking noise from underneath my 2012 XF. The dealer tells me that there is a notice about it, it is known as fuel slap where something in the tank slaps around when the tank is full. They can remove the tank and correct it at cost. I saw here that there was a recall so why should I need to pay? Anyone else had a main dealer charge for this?
The bulletin notice was: JTB00263 And I don't think this was a recall? To get the problem fixed FOC you had to complain to you Jaguar dealer. Unless you bought the car from a Jaguar dealer within the last 2 years then any warrantee has timed out and lapsed for a 2012 model. You could try and see if as a gesture of goodwill? you can get the problem sorted by contacting CS at Jaguar HQ.

Who's got a DPF then?
in Jaguar X-Type Club
Posted
All very illegal for road use Like Peter says the DPF is only a visual check for MOT and Jaguars diesels will pass the current emission test with the soot filter removed unless the engine is well worn and smoking when held at revs. If the box is neatly cut open with a plasma cutter and the guts removed then a plate welded back and rub some grease over so it burns and stains the heat shield above hides from further visual investigation. The DPF from the ECU will need to be removed also. If its worth going to all that trouble to just save approximately £360 an aftermarket DPF costs is up to the individual? Only benefit nice exhaust roar + 10bhp gain
