I have a replacement audio head unit for my 2007 S Type and would like to know how could I test it before taking my current one out of the car could I attach a couple of leads from a 12 volt source to certain pins on the back if so does anyone know which pins to use

Thank you all and have a great weekend

Hi Joe

Yes sorry I mean the double din unit that has the touch screen in the front dual climate buttons nav etc . On the back is a 24 pin connector socket .the CD player is a separate unit underneath this with two connectors a small one that I think is optical the one above that has pins different than the double din unit left to right it starts with four pins that are thicker than the rest then 16 normal

So two rows 2 thick then 8 thin in each row. I could take mine out of the car but I hoped there would be a way to just test this before I went that far. I have a Lavolta test machine that regulates volts current

Any advice will be appreciated thanks Joe

Hi

yes it can be powered up on the bench, I've been doing it to test a video in adapter

but the display will be blank, you need to connect it to the nav dvd as well, or you wont get a picture

to power it up on the bench you need to connect the wire below with arrows on them

red arrows are 12volts feed

black arrows are earths

blue arrows are a coms link ( no picture without this )

yellows are video, these are what you break into with a adapter to add reverse camera or any video device with RGBs

I have one working to try video interface

cheers

Joe

Thanks Joe I know it will sound silly but after reading posts regarding Andriod conversion I thought what a great idea

I've got all the bits and a raspberry pi3 I thought how hard can it be lol

Now I'm regretting it but I did have some sense and I bought a s type head unit and dvd to adapt so that my own is untouched

Problem is there are no cables with the head unit or the dvd player

I don't want to start taking the cables out of the car but I'm just not having any luck finding spares anywhere

I really do appreciate your help Joe thank you

Hi

I got a loom from a s-type and cut the nav loom  connectors out and made a mini loom

use a spare display and nav to get it running on the bench

also ben wilcox on another forum has a full parts list and instructions on how to convert one

link here http://www.jaguarforum.com/showthread.php?t=89210

if your handy with electronics, you should be ok

cheers

Hello Joe

I have an unusual request for you and I hope it will not offend you it's just that I have spent all day trying to track down a salvaged wiring harness from the dvd sat nav to the head unit and screen

You said you had made up your own test harness . If I sent you the money for the parts plus a fee for your time and effort. Would you be interested I would not be offended if you said no I just really am stuck

Thank you

Andy

Hi Andy

I got the loom and just used the connectors off the dvd and the touch screen and left about 2 feet of wire on them and just joined them together

my test harness uses the original connector off the loom, before I had that I used the wires pushed on method

this allow you to power up the screen and dvd to display item on it

if you can drop on the connectors from a breaker, its easy to put them together,  there's only 8 wires to connect between dvd and touch screen , then power and earth

cheers

Joe
