Jaguar XJS - should I fit a leaper badge to the bonnet?
LairdScooby replied to RDSJSM's topic in 1981 to 1994 XJ
Entirely as an "each to their own" comment, i would prefer to see something like that as the factory intended. I recently bought another car and a previous owner has added "V6", "automatic" and Union flag badges. Granted it is a V6 auto but it's definitely a Japanese car (JDM Import) so shouldn't have the Union flag on it IMHO. Conversely the car it's replacing is a Japanese brand but was built in Swindon so technically could have the Union flag at a push. What i'm really saying here is that while having a Leaper on an XJS might suit your tastes, it might not suit everyones and could negatively impact the value. -

I have a 1988 Jaguar XJS - should I fit a leaper cat badge to the bonnet as well as the existing growler badge? Or should I fit the leaper cat badge to where the growler badge was fitted? Are there any issues with either option or should I not do it due to possible corrosion if drilling new holes in the bonnet? Any help would be appreciated?

Decided to order some new plates and a new plate holder for my jaguar x type as they were looking rather old and tatty , fixed and installed the rear plate no issues just a couple of screws but as I took the plate off the holder there are 3 metal rivets fixing the holder to the bumper , any advice on what I can do? Will I need to remove the whole bumper to replace this or will I be able to remove these with a drill? Any advice would be greatly appreciated and if anyone has done this before tips would be great

Got the same issue on my older model - Jaguar X type 2006 , been told I need to replace all of the shocks due to it being an all wheel drive , didn’t pay a huge amount for the car but I don’t think I want to be forking out for them especially at that cost!

The C70 is enjoying a bit of a rennaissance interms of value and kudos so my advice would be SORN it over winter and run it as a summer car.

............ and here we see the 3.0 Jaguar in its natural habitat, a fillng station! 🤣 Joking aside, i have an S Type 3.0 and i easily get at least 28mpg from it without trying - the big enemy of good mpg is pootling about at 30mph up and down the gears. Long straight roads, constant speed above 50mph and it gets good figures. Welcome aboard Daniel, as mentioned above, check for rust on the sills and where they meet the rear wheel arches. -

Hello folks I'm in a similar dillema moving from a convertible Volvo C 70 with its folding metal roof and great capacity to an F type fixed head coupe which does at least allow golf club storage. I would have loved the convertible version but with no storage on board, maybe i should keep the Volvo for summer holidays. By the way do our F type owners think that the glass sun roof is an asset. (No wonder Im calling myself Frazzle) ,

You don’t see many 3.0’s , just make sure the sills are solid behind the skirts (you need to remove them to check properly) mostly I seem to spot diesels. -

fixing a cylinder head gasket leak temporarily
JustBadly replied to Shadowfax's topic in Jaguar S-Type Club
It isn't the cam cover gasket it is the manifold actuator flap gasket. Check behind the manifold casting and you will find it is wet. Another good reason for an oil catch tank from the engine breather. https://ebay.us/m/IYddQl https://ebay.us/m/OkfXPQ -

No, but SDD 131 and mongoose can do it. As soon as you plug it in it will read the car and send you to 'Legacy' IDS. Apparently this version is easy enough to track down and it has to run on WinXP with the PC date August 2012! -

Eaton M112 oil from Powerhouse. It carries the same specs as the Jet oil such as the US Military performance standards.

Welcome to the Forum, lots of great advice available on here so don't be afraid to ask. Do you mean the door covering the petrol cap isn't locking when the car is locked? Perhaps the slider that engages with the door is in need of some coaxing and lubrication. N6 JMX

Hello Christopher. Thanks for that. The dealer is dealing with the issue thankfully and they think its a faulty instrument cluster which is being repaired at present. I will keep you posted. Thanks. Best, Rob

Hi all, Just bought an X type, great condition, low mileage, really well maintained. Might have questions about how to fix stuff (eg. Petrol cap doesn't lock) Just wanted to say hi!

out of date map has nothing to do with tcu? and compromising head unit relates to head unit software update... find specialist who updates jag systems for a living. quite often they are mobile.

My 2017 XJL 3.0 diesel portfolio with 30k milage full service history, has out of date maps easy fix,,,,NOT apparently my car needs a TCU upgrade that may or may not fix the issue or may compromise the TCU and head unit, cost of upgrade about £250 cost of fixing if it fails and compromises the vehicle £ 0000 and a new or second hand may not work as it maybe out of date, like me to old. So unless someone has a idea or a spare bank account. A Collins road map is the way forward.

Can the JLR SDD 165 Mongoose access the immobilizer fault codes on my 2005 S Type -
I’ve just got a 1998 XK8, on the way home all the instruments stoped working, SPEED, RPM, FUEL, OIL, WATER, AMPS. Non of the back lights on any instruments work. The car starts and drives. So I think there must be a connector that is either come adrift or corroded. Can any one point me in the right direction to where this might be located or any other suggestions? Thanks
