Hi Steve, not a problem I have experienced myself, but it is possible to have brackets fabricated to reposition the seat as this is a regular requirement in racing circles. Most seats in a modern car are secured to the chassis by 2 bolts in each of the 2 runners - therefore 4 in total. What is required is a bracket under each runner that is secured using the existing body holes and allows for the runners to be attached further back. If you search for a race car preparation facility near your location you may well be pleasantly surprised. Won't hep with the test drive of course, but check around on the site - folks love their S-types. N6 JMX

Need a replacement hose, but which one is it???
N6 JMX replied to Wingwalker's topic in Jaguar X-Type Club
Hi David, I am not an X-type owner myself, but I have used the parts website in the past to find applicable part numbers by carefully considering the diagrams with the view of the engine bay in real time. What I'm saying is that it needs a bit of detective work to ensure you are looking at the correct location in the engine bay compared to the parts diagram. Additionally, you need to bear in mind that your hose no longer looks exactly like the diagrams since someone has chopped a length off and grafted in a short extension - that is giving you the issues. Perhaps it's a case of determining the start and end points for your offending pipe / hose and checking with a local garage to ask if they can tell you what it's actually called. The photos are not really clear enough to show the details, hence the need for the actual parts to be looked at. I note you are in Dorset, which is a large county of course, but there is an excellent independent Jaguar garage relatively close by, see the link below: Swallows Jaguar Specialist | Servicing, Performance & Motorsport for JLR They are in Rooksbridge, near Bristol. Hey guys, am new here and thought I would seek your advice, I have always loved the S Type and went to go and have a look at 2003 3.0 V6 to find I couldn’t fit into it at 6’9”, the seat just doesn’t go back far enough, is there a way to extend the runners or remove and place further back to accommodate me, the only bummer is that I can’t test drive one. I dont care about the passenger behind because this is for me, my tiny wife and daughter who can sit behind her. I see the latest post 2006 models have a longer wheel base but then it’s falling into the stupid tax category. I don’t know if anyone else has this problem?? Thanks for your time in reading Scott

Hi Steve, just noticed that your location in the profile is given as "Aberdeenshire", same as myself. Might be worthwhile catching up at some point to compare notes. N6 JMX

Need a replacement hose, but which one is it???
Wingwalker replied to Wingwalker's topic in Jaguar X-Type Club
Hi Jim and many thanks for your reply. That's a really detailed and well put together website (probably too much in fact) as I can't find the part anywhere... 😞 I've looked under the headings of "Air and fuel Delivery Systems", as well as "Engine", and then drilled down further to each of the individual sub headings, and then the specific parts as well. But unless I missed it, I couldn't find it. Am I looking in the right place??? D. -

Hi David, the link below will take you to the Jaguar Classic Parts site (X-type pages) where you can browse until your heart's content to find the correct part number for the piece you need. X-type 2001 - 2010 (x400) Classic | Jaguar Land Rover Classic Parts N6 JMX -

Hi all, David here. Very long story cut very very short... I have a 2.1L Petrol X-Type that had the dreaded error code P0174. The first garage I took it to saw there were two areas where air was escaping and quite literally "bodged" something together to make it work (whilst charging me handsomely in the process). One of which was an old piece of rubber hose that they cut down to replace the original hose under the manifold cover which had split. Unbeknown to me at the time, the length they cut was barely long enough to sit snugly as it should do onto the next pipe which it connects to. They didn't even use Jubilee clips to hold it in place - it just sat there, barely connected!!! I later discovered this issue and did a temporary fix with the clips as you can see in the photos until I could get round to sorting it out myself. However, the clips keep undoing themselves through to the vibration in day to day driving and as such, the air is escaping again. I now need to get the correct type of hose to replace this bodged piece with and would be grateful if anyone could please provide me with a part number and / or a supplier from which I can get one from. Any questions, feel free to shout. Many thanks in advance. David.

I too used KG Auto Electronics with the gear knob won't turn problem in my Jaguar XF 2009. They charged me £110 including postage to fix it, which was great value. There is another stream on this site that suggests a cracked/dry joint on the circuit board is the problem. 2 weeks on all is working well. Very pleased.

Best bet is probably to get an exhaust fabrication company to add some silencers to the straight through pipes, or make up some custom backboxes for you ? I will be surprised if you can find new genuine ones anywhere for the 'R', think they are bigger pipe diameter than the V6 versions. Used ones, if you can find some, are a gamble, they could already be corroded. I still have the originals from my car, removed when I fitted the straight through pipes but will keep them in case I ever decide to revert to 'stock'

Hi Rob, it may be best to show your location as "Non UK" - that way there is no confusion on the Forum as to regards where you are located. I initially thought it a touch strange when you posted about being "across the water" but had Bedfordshire as your location - appreciate we Scots sometimes consider "England" to be "across the water". offside mirror motor replacement on a 1999 XKR
N6 JMX replied to David Jay's topic in Jaguar Technical
Hi David, it may be the case that your existing 3 lead mirror assembly has the heated element as well as the folding system (motor). Perhaps your second-hand replacement does not have the heating element - something you can check by working out which wires connect to the car to allow the mirror to fold electrically - try it on the bench using a power supply or battery to work out the wiring connections and check. Unless your glass is broken on your existing mirror, it may be possible to swap the parts around so that you get both heat and folding! N6 JMX -

P.s. I didn't see my town, so I chose the closest spelling, Bedfordshire (UK). I live near "Bedford" near Halifax, Nova Scotia, east Coast of Canada. -
Hi Steve, hope you are enjoying your Jaguar other than the "fruity" exhaust note - S-type are great cars. Have you spoken with any of the Jaguar specialists such as AJ6 Engineering? They do a lot of bespoke exhaust systems for Jaguars, find them at the following link: aj6 engineering | For the Jaguar enthusiast N6 JMX

Hi, does anyone know where I could get some rear silencers for my 2004 STR, it has straight through ones and very loud, don't mind used ones or if there are any other makes that would fit, obviously not straight through, thanks.

Hi I just joined, I have 2004 s type 4.2r and looking for some help, it has been fitted with straight through back boxes and have been told originals are unobtainable, does anyone know of where I can get some secondhand ones or of any other non-straight through ones that may fit, any help greatly appreciated.

I need to replace a broken offside mirror on my 1999 Jag XKR convertible I have purchased a complete offside mirror assembly which contains a motor with only two connection leads The mirror on my car has three conection leads and the mirror retracts electrically The supplier of the mirror assembly assures me that his motor will allow the mirror to work fully and to retract electrically. Please let me know if he is correct. Many thanks David Jay

David Sacks started following Roof cross bars
-
Just a query please. I have in my possession, a pair of lockable roof cross rails, which I bought new for a new XF Sportbrake, on a 15 plate. I sold the car some years ago for another Jaguar, then another, my current F Pace, but the bars don’t fit. So I’m selling, along with a plastic boot mat for the 15 plate Sportbrake. I’ve hunted high and low to try and find if my rails would fit any other year of Sportbrake, or indeed any other Jaguar model. Anybody able to enlighten me?
