Hi guys, I’ve just bought a s type 2006. I love the car and drives better than my 2022 Volvo. You would think it as old as it is. It’s stunning. however I have the navigation system and the audio isn’t clever. I was hoping to add a discreet amp and change the speakers for a more premium setup. However I believe this can’t be done . Unless some of you fantastic enthusiasts can tell me different. thank you in advance

Hi Joseph, you need to get your car on diagnostic equipment to find out if there are any stored fault codes, then someone may be able to point you towards the appropriate cure. N6 JMX

Not as scary as it sounds, a Dedicated Ground Return is a negative cable from the alternator that runs back to the battery. Here I have bolted a tag to the alternator housing with the cable lug riveted. Cable is pure copper 8awg, and I used 5 meters. From the tag to behind the FR wheel liner then along the RH rocker cover, then behind the RR wheel liner above the exhaust to a convenient blind grommet into the boot. This is delivering a better charge and it is not surprising since the negative to the battery runs thru 3 meters of mild steel chassis after the engine. The DRG is also better for canbus due to lower signal interference.

I have recently purchased a 2007 S Type 2.7 diesel automatic which has a braking problem that my mechanic is scratching his head over and I’m hoping someone here knows the answer. When braking, the pedal is initially hard with no retardation, press harder and the pedal goes down and the car stands on its nose. When you release the pedal, it stays down initially but slowly comes up allowing you to drive off, but works better when you put a toe under the brake pedal to lift it fully. So far my mechanic has stripped all 4 corners and reassembled, changed the brake servo and also the vacuum. Still does the same with the added benefit of now showing an ABS fault. has anyone else experienced anything similar, or understand what is going on?

My 2011 XF is leaking oil on the bottom of the timing chain cover. My mechanic recommends I replaced it but it’s a couple thousand pounds. He’s recommending I replaced the timing chain and tension mechanism at the same time which will break my cost to about 3500 pounds. That is just about what the car is worth.. should I repair it or get rid of the car?

Here she is in all her glory, very pleased with my purchase. The dealer didn’t take any pictures of the inside but it’s ivory with light brown carpets. Full history almost all Jaguar 100k miles for an absolute steal. Hurry up and get this dent done that the dealer said he’s getting done. Can’t wait to drive now.

Anyone remapped a 5.0 (naturally aspirated) XK?
Garry1127 replied to Garry1127's topic in Jaguar Technical
The remap will be in association with an Elite four pipe back box which supposedly releases another 20hp so overall I'm looking at a 40 - 50hp increase, but the main driver is looks (4 pipe) deeper noise and a slight increase in mpg which will increase the cars touring range, gaining a slightly sharper quicker car is a bonus. I prefer the XK to the XKR as it has a smoother ride, a lovely supple feel in corners (still with little roll) and has better ground clearance. -
gearbox XK 2010 Gears stuck briefly and wouldnt change up?
N6 JMX replied to Karen W's topic in XK8 / XKR ( X100) 1996 - 2006
Hi folks, Nige - you are referring to the X-100 model with the gear lever, whilst Karen is referring to the X-150 model with the rising rotary selector. In addition, the X-100 issue you describe is a static gear selection issue, whilst the X-150 sounds more like it is referring to an "on the move" gear change issue. The gearbox on the X-150 is "sealed for life" according to the books, but the small print should read that the "gearbox is sealed for the life of the manufacturers warranty liability". The sages will advise that the gearbox oil should be changed on the X-150 at around 60k miles, but it is quite a specialist process and needs to be carried out by someone who knows what they are doing. What's the mileage on your XK Karen and do you know if the gearbox oil has been changed in its lifetime? N6 JMX -

Anyone remapped a 5.0 (naturally aspirated) XK?
N6 JMX replied to Garry1127's topic in Jaguar Technical
Hi Garry, as previously intimated, not aware of anyone having the 5.0 NA XK remapped, so not sure how many there could be out there to offer an opinion. However, I suspect that the relatively low power increase available is more due to the remap parameters than the absolute maxim that could be achieved if one were to take a 5.0 NA racing for instance. That aside, I would suggest you need to ask yourself some questions about the value of making such modifications as I can tell you that a modest increase of 20 - 30 HP will not be noticeable in a car that already has some 385 HP on tap. The top speed will still be limited to 155MPH, the 0 - 60 MPH time will still be around 5 seconds (standard is 5.2 seconds) and on UK roads you cannot use the level of power the car currently produces. What other parameters does the remap alter? MPG, torque? Why not simply swap for an XKR? N6 JMX -
Anyone remapped a 5.0 (naturally aspirated) XK?
Garry1127 replied to Garry1127's topic in Jaguar Technical
I've been looking further into remapping my XK 5.0 NA. There is an interesting variation in how much power increase I would get from remapping the 5.0 NA engine. Superchips 28hp. Celtic tuning 30hp increase. Remap Kings 28hp increase. Hyper chips 29hp increase. But there are many others saying only a 20hp increase. Mallory Performance 20hp increase. Quantum 20hp increase. Avon Tuning 20hp increase. Chip Tuners 20hp increase. My question to the more knowledgeable out there are these differences due to different remap software or just variations in what the different companies claim? -

Need a replacement hose, but which one is it???
Wingwalker replied to Wingwalker's topic in Jaguar X-Type Club
Hi Jim (N6 JMX), I've emailed the company in Bristol and am now just waiting on a reply (although that was a couple of days ago and I've not heard anything back from them yet). I may just give them a nudge to see if they received my original message. D. -

Hi Lord Lucan, Many thanks for your reply - I didn't realise it was called the engine breather pipe, so that's now given me something to work on which I appreciate thanks. I'll keep everyone updated as I go along... D. -
