  2. Hi Geoff, I suspect what you are looking at is a rubber seal that has baked hard due to age, wear and heat. Putting your part number into the search engine produces multiple "hits", including OEM seals available and they all look like rubber items to me. N6 JMX

  4. Hi all, my apologies if I'm posting this in the wrong forum - first time poster! I need to replace the diff pinion oil seal in an XK8 I'm working on. Looking at the old seal, it seems to be made of Bakelite on the top - any ideas why this material is used for this application? It seems quite old-fashioned. Thanks in advance,
  5. Told you in terms of codes. I'll have to look in the hood to see if it's turning. While in the car i can't tell. i know there's power because there is a noise but doesn't sound like an engine turning over. Will let you know.
  6. Just a weird thought here Graham, do you have an overdrive button for your gearbox? If so, try cycling that off/on a couple of times before turning the ignition on.
  7. Hello all, My first post, so I hope not a ridiculous question: Is the camber adjustable on the XF? (X260 - mine is a Jan 2020 build). And if not, why not? Reason for query: just had 4 x Eagle F1 Asym 6 fitted, followed by wheel alignment reset by technician using Hunter system. Printed report before and after shows the left (nearside) camber front and rear were and are both outside the green tolerance limit (left front was -0.53 now -0.49, left rear was -1.30 now -1.25). This means the thrust angle is slightly off, only just within tolerance. The technician tells me camber is not adjustable. I pressed him on this as the caster reading is greyed out - which does seem to indicate non-adjustable. But the camber readings are yellow (left) and green (right). So is the technician correct? Or does it just mean it needs a specialist to perform any adjustment? Thanks for any advice. Paul. img035.pdf
  8. The problem of the blocked AC drain persists on both the earlier New XK (X-150) and on the XJ (X-350). N6 JMX
  9. Hi Dave, Many thanks for your thoughts. I did put a new battery on but that did not cure the light. It may be a slightly less amperage than required, but the size of the tray was critical. When I start the car from cold 3 times, it's one after the other. The car is always on a trickle charger. I now turn the ignition on and wait 5 seconds before starting. Touch wood, the light hasn't come on over quite a few starts. I don't know what made me think of doing this but I'm hopeful. Cheers. Graham.

  11. Hi Eddie, sounds like you have a blocked drain from the AC system, a known problem especially in the New XK models. There is a modification to the drain that avoids future blockages. Not a big problem, but quite a task to access the drain and make the fix. N6 JMX

  13. Can anyone give any advise in the Essex area need to find someone to tune my 1968 Mark 2 - any suggestions?

  15. Has any one any idea why water is coming through the air vent on my XJ X350 under the passenger seat . I have cleaned drain holes near cabin filter but still coming in into footwell of back passenger.

  17. wow haven't seen all those codes before ???----You didn't say if the engine is turning over on the starter motor ????
  18. The smell of burning semiconductors is different to that of an alternator or other wound component (eg motor, transformer etc) so that might give you the answer. If you stick your head in the footwell and have a good sniff, you should get your answer - if the BCM has fried, you'll smell it. The alternator windings will be a more accrid smell and most obvious under the bonnet, particularly in the region of the alternator. At this stage, guesswork won't do it, you need a proper diagnosis, hopefully your Jag specialist has autoelectrical training or at least, a working knowledge of electrical systems. Even then they can be tricky to diagnose.
  19. That’s what I thought to be fair could the smell of came from the bcm in the drivers foot well 🤷‍♂️
  20. Codes: 0171, 0174, 0133, 0153, 0300, 0301, 0307, 0302, 0304, 0305, 0306, 1314, 1316, 1111, 1642, 0420, 0430.
  21. Hi Ross I would still have a look around the mega fuses as a poor connection there could well fit your symptoms (including the burning smell) and I am not convinced a dead alternator would account for non-operational interior lights and hazards... Good luck John
  22. Hi everyone a thanks for the replies, after speaking to a jag specialist where it’s getting delivered too he thinks it’s more than likely the alternator has burned out as it’s now 6 years old and to be fair a week before all this started I had a right smell of burning one day on the way to work I thought it was coming from out side or it was the road water on the hot exhaust. Fingers crossed a new battery and alternator will fix her and it last another 3 years till the cars paid off 🥴
