  2. Hi Mark, that does sound very unusual to get a battery drain that fast. Have you checked the lights in the vanity mirrors behind the sun visors? If fitted, these lights on the vanity mirror stay lit all of the time if the sliding cover is not closed over, even when the sun visor is flipped back upwards. Obviously try and view your car in a dark space to see if there is any glow that can be spotted, but otherwise it would seem you can rule out courtesy lights. Do you have any other accessories installed that could be taking power when normally they should power down with the ignition off? Something like a dashcam? Finding a power drain is not a simple task unfortunately, especially when there is nothing obvious like something illuminated. Hidden drain on the battery could be the battery itself, try charging up the old / removed battery if you have it and connect it to the car via suitable jump leads, whilst having the newly installed battery disconnected. If the old battery also discharges rapidly, then your issue lies within the car and not the battery. N6 JMX
  3. I've owned my 2005 3.0 s type since 2007 now with 83,000mls. But lately the battery is losing charge. I changed the battery as the one that was on there was 6yrs old. But with the new battery its draining within 3 days. I've checked the boot light, the glove box light, the interior light and the door lights. None of them are staying lite up. I tested the charging and its about 14.9v on tick over and 12.3v with engine off. It must be a big drain to kill a new battery in 72hrs. Anybody got any ideas or had similar issues. Thanks
  4. !Removed! hell, your fault? an insult if you ask me...yeh i would speak to dealer principal, if they won't even entertain the idea, legal action full on.
  5. if you had tiny rattle at first then the damage was not done then, it was just the beggining of the chain problem. they f it up on replacement as there is no way it got worse after the replacement on it's own. you might be in for long and winded 'battle' with this one. i would go and look for 2nd opinion in good independent jag garage. and wouldnt be driving it either as the result might engine failure.
  6. Hi Ivan, I don't have experience or knowledge of the issues you highlight, but as an engineer I am not prone to believe in coincidences, but in cause and effect. You state your engine made some ticking noises on start up before the timing chain replacement and now it makes a harsh metallic rasping noise. As an engineer, we always look back at what was undertaken immediately prior to any change in the noise / note. In your case, changing the timing chain has resulted in a noise that should never be present in any mechanical rotating machinery. Your first port of call should be with the garage that completed the work and they should investigate and correct - at their cost. It could be that something was reinstated incorrectly, or something was left inside the engine - socket, nut, etc. N6 JMX
  7. Hi David, excellent, well done. Enjoy a new project and get it out and about - they do need to be used, even if sparingly. N6 JMX

  9. Hi everyone, I need some advice regarding a worrying issue after a timing chain replacement. I own a Jaguar (2016, 2.0d) and had a slight vibration on cold starts and a very faint ticking noise, mostly noticeable when idling. No fault codes were present — I had the car checked at an independent garage and then again at an official Jaguar service centre. Both said there were no error codes and weren’t 100% sure what the noise was, but the official dealer suspected it might be timing chain-related. To be safe, I asked them to replace the timing chain. After the replacement, the car now makes a harsh, metallic rasping noise on startup that wasn’t there before. It’s loud and definitely worrying — two mechanics at the dealership have driven the car and confirmed the noise but can’t identify the exact cause yet. They’ve mentioned it might be oil-related or possibly engine damage caused by the previously loose timing chain. I’m trying to understand: • Has anyone here had a similar issue after changing the timing chain? • Could a previously stretched chain really cause hidden engine damage that only became apparent after fitting a new one? • Or could this be a result of something done incorrectly during the replacement? Any advice or experience would be massively appreciated before I go any further with inspections or complaints. Thanks in advance!
  10. hi Jim , got the Heritage Certificate ,all original car and colour exported to Calcutta India as new . Thank you for pointing me in the right direction I also drive a 2004 low mileage XKR convertible , a real beauty ....
  11. The onus is on them to carry out the work you are paying them for with an appropriate level of skill and professionalism. I would first ask to speak to the dealer principal / head of business, if you don't have any success, trading standards / consult a solicitor.
  12. Hi Les, I think I would consult a suitable petrolhead solicitor as the comment by the garage is just plain dumb - no-one dips their oil or checks the level of the work completed by their dealer ahead of driving away. Hatfield's are trying it on. In the past, I have had an oil leak on my drive after the dealer returned my car without having replaced the washer / seal on the sump plug - their fault and fully rectified, including a full underbody clean-up where the oil had been spraying the underside of the car on the drive from the dealer to home. 13. I put my Jag xe sport into Hatfields in Liverpool for an oil and filter change. It cost me just shy of £200 . It sounded clunky when I left. But wasn't overly concerned because I had just left the "experts" or so I thought. They failed to put oil in my engine, when the warning light came on for me to STOP and then I checked, I rang them and they said because I drove away without checking it first, the onus was on me. My beautiful car was wrecked. I'm heartbroken. So all you guys out there, don't let my car die in vain. Trust no-one and check your oil before leaving the garage. Hence to say I would not recommend Hatfield in Liverpool to anyone as far as I'm concerned, they are a bunch of cowboys.

  15. The SV8 was the top of the range XF from 2008-2009, using the 420 BHP version of the supercharged 4.2 V8 engine, which was used previously in the S-TYPE R, XJR and XKR models. The XFR came out in 2009, and used the newer 5.0 Supercharged V8 engine with 503 BHP. The SV8 was discontinued when the XFR was launched, hence it's rarity, only being in production for 1 year. It was marketed as a 'Luxury performance' version, hence not being badged as an 'R' model.
  16. Hi, thanks for the information. I have just listed it as what it says on the rear badge and on the V5. I believe this model was the forerunner to the XFR V8 which is 5.0 litre non supercharged. Regards JT
  17. Thanks for approving my membership, Just purchased my third Jaguar XJ, first was 1975 series 2 4.2 second was an 1994 3.2 XJ40 Gold and this week a 1995 XJR. It's my second car so ready for cruising. Been car mad since I was a nipper. I'm sure if I have any questions this is the place to get answers. Right I'm off for a quick tour of the Cotswolds, think I'd better fill her up John.
  18. Hi David, No it wasn’t, it was in the South West..
  19. Hi all i have a 1996 xk8 , are there any easy fixes with the electric petrol cap . Mine has recently stopped working. I know how to manually open it but is there a common problem and easy fix for them . Thanks in advance . also more importantly are there any jag breakers yards near Manchester/ Rochdale area that can be recommended. Regards Dave.
  20. Hi andy nothing to do with the headlining but more curiosity . You said you recently purchased the xk8 . Was it from Stockport/ Manchester area by chance .

  23. no it doesnt. i've got pro and it's 3g. as mentioned earlier, 4g was implemented from 2018 or 2019 models. 2017 like yours has 3g for sure. and you can't make it 4g - thought about it to just swap module, but it won't work as 4g one has different architecture to 3g module and it simply won't talk to the car
  24. Also, does the fact the car is touch pro make a difference? I read online touch pro should be 4G
  25. Do you remember what dongle you used?
