Jaguar XE: prices (sort of), specs, and release date

Featured Replies

The new Jaguar XE will be officially unveiled tonight (September 8th), after the car was carried by a helicopter down the River Thames last night.

Jaguar’s 3 series, A4, and C-Class rival will be shown to the public this evening, and will try to gain a foothold in this area by boasting the most fun to drive car in the class, while being quiet and luxurious.

The XE claims to be the most economical out of its rivals with more than 75mpg coming from the turbo charged 2.0 Petrol or Diesel in its most frugal model. This is apparently thanks to their new lightweight aluminium construction, the same technology that is in the XJ, XK, and F-Type. It is also highly likely that the car will have low enough CO2 emissions to be eligible for free road tax.

The prices are still to be confirmed, but Jaguar have a history of under cutting similar models, so the XE could cost less than its equivalent, the 3 series. However due to the lack of small engines this is probably not going to be the case.

BMW eat you heart out!

On Friday I was driving in between Solihull and Birmingham on the back roads when I saw a car with trade plates coming towards me.  The Front plate was across the radiator grill but had slipped a little and I could see the growler badge.  The car was in light blue and looked rather like a slightly smaller version of the XF

I wonder   ----  and wished I had a car camera!

Peter.

Are they going to do a "R" version with a bigger engine?

ATB,

Trevor

Trevor, by 2017 there will be an XE RS with a 5.0 litre V8 supercharged engine.  God knows what speed it will do but it will certainly be speed limited.

I think the new car will have a good choice of engines with the 2 litre engine being available in both petrol and diesel engine.

Peter.

Peter,

2017 ? I'll be needing an invalid carriage by then ! . Think I'll stick to the XKR then .

XE Event Tour

Going to Gleneagles to night ( 5.30pm/8.30pm ) to see the new XE Model I believe there will be 2 Cars on show

and it will be good to see them in the flesh so to speak, there's been quite a lot of negative reports on the new model by members

on different Forum's.

Regards

Tom

I got an invitation to go to the Castle Bromwich unveiling of the XE in early December, but although Castle Bromwich is only 6 miles away the journey at the time it was organised for puts it right in the middle of the rush 2 hours in Birmingham and as well as that traffic there are horrendous road works in the area.

Gleneagles would have been less stressful.

Peter.

The XE Models they had on show were ( Italian Red 3 litre engine from the F Type 0-60mph in 4.9 secs and a 2.0 litre Prestige in a metallic white and does 75 mpg )

Members down sizing from a XF will probably adapt to the XE with ease , but moving up from an X Type will be a very different story.

Getting in and out of the XE seems a bit more difficult than the X Type and your shoes seem to hit the sill when getting out of the Rear door on the 3 litre model because of the width of the sill. I think it will do well if the Technology that was mentioned last night is as good as they say it is , when production starts in Jan/Feb 2015 there could be some changes compared to the Cars on show last night.

The car in white was a left-hand drive model and was at the Paris Motor Show on these models the Batteries were in the Boot which could be changed or if certain models have 2 Batteries one could be next to the Engine and one in the Boot to balance things out, as for the wheels (17in on the 2.0 litre car and 20in low profile on the 3.0 litre car) must say the 20in wheels looked much better, internally everything was in Black so we'll have to wait and see the production models to see what will be on offer.

Tom

Tom,

Any mention of a 5 litre "R" version?

They wouldn't comment on any other Engines, as they said when asked about a Estate or Coupe anything is possible, but did say that all

Petrol Engines will only have Automatic Gearboxes and Diesel Engines will have a choice of Manuel or Automatic Gearboxes

Tom

Tom,

I would imagine they might be auto or paddle shift .

But I agree, I think in the future all years will be automatic.

Didn't think I would like auto, but now I wouldn't have it any other way, although I do use the paddle shift for fun sometimes

Hi Barrie, and Welcome to the Club,

I too have the odd problem or three in regards to posting pictures for some unbeknown reason.

Something should have popped up. It hasn't so I will try again.
