Hi,

I have not long bought a 1999 S type.

It drives well but traction control message came on when driving up Motorway.

It stops fine all levels OK.

Is this a common fault with the sensors?

Also when backing up occasionally when I pull forward rattle for a short time from the back by exhaust do you think this is just because it may be a little loose?

Any ideas welcome.

Cheers,

Julie.

that's what id check first  and maybe put some new rubber fig 8's on first   the old one's may be a bit worn they are only a few £ or could be a heat shield rattle.

not too sure about the s type hope this helps  Julie

regards ron

Hi Julie,

I am inclined to agree with Ron.  I used to have an X type and the exhaust design is similar to the s type.

On the question about the traction control I will ask if the light stayed on or went off.

If it went off it would mean that one of the rear wheels slipped on something.  It happened to me last Autumn when I went over some wet leaves in the road.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Julie,

Try switching if off and then back on --  cheap option first.

If it come back on a Diagnostic tool could be used to find out what error code it throws us.

It could also be a sensor playing up.

I come from the era when a lump hammer rectified many problems, and these electrical things sometimes mystify me!

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Peter,

Will try that.

These electrical gadgets can be so useful but as you say rather mysterious and a bit of a pain when they go wrong.

Cars many years ago, before the computer age, could be fixed easily at home in most cases. My Father did all his own repairs.

Regards,

Julie.
