S TYPE 2.7 V6 Diesel Cam Belt / Chain

Featured Replies

Hi, Does anyone know at what mileage does this need replacing and what is the cost.

Hi Steve, and welcome to the club.

The cam belt on the 2.7D engine  should be replaced at 105k miles.

The cost from an independent garage should be circa £300, and from a Jaguar Main dealer somewhat more.

A Main Dealer in Coventry was advertising a special offer last year for  a cam belt change for £350.

Regards,

Peter.

I've had a quote from main dealer of £505+vat and an independent at £300+vat.

Just to add to peters recommendation 105k or TEN years, whichever is sooner

Thanks Gents, much appreciated. Any other basic advise for a new Jag owner?

Keep your wallet open!!

Find a good independent garage/mechanic.

But being fair to Jaguar, I have had very little expenditure in the last two years.  Two oil and filter changes, a full service, two new tyres and two MOT's which the car got through without any advisories..

Peter.

Cheers!

It would be a good idea to get the belt on the other end of the engine changed at the same time whether or not it is quite due, as all the covers will be off anyway.

Awkward job but as others have said, no need for a dealer. Any competent mechanic will be able to do it.

The rear belt is only due a change at 150k.
