Just thought I would fill you all in, the latest news on the brake fade saga. All tests carried out, and lo and behold it's the vacuum pump, so £346 later and labour on top, the car now sports a new Bosch pump all done on the RAC Warranty, still going to treat the old girl to a new set of discs ready for winter, what's the average price, I'm assuming around the £500 mark. What you all think.

I had my trusted mechanic replace my disks and pads all round Ian.

They were not OEM but work superbly well and the whole setup including fitting only came to £300. IIRC, the disks were in the region of £40 per corner just for the parts.

Excellent price.

I was quoted £500 at Halford's to replace disks and pads all round if/when they needed replacing.

Had the car booked in today for discs and pads at ATS £448 today, then I get a phone call from the mechanics after the road test from the New vacuum pump install, why?, I hear you ask, well apparently the servo has now decided to say farewell, I assume from oil ingress from what was the faulty pump, there followed frantic calls to RAC warranty people who in their infinite wisdom have decided to foot the total bill £1384. Who said these warranties are not worth the paper there written on? I think I have just been extremely lucky to have found a garage that has fought my corner.
