Hello everyone,

My name's David and I very recently bought my first Jaguar; a 2002 X Type, 2.1 V6 manual.

Everything was fine for the first couple of days but I then noticed it juddering when accelerating, mainly when cold and more noticeable at lower speeds and revs.

I've scoured the Internet and it seems people seem to have this issue more when the engines warm rather than cold, which has left me somewhat baffled.

It's also worth noting that the temperature gauge isn't showing the car warming up very quickly. I did 7 miles yesterday of juddery driving before the gauge hit the right temperature. It's been getting worse since I noticed it. The car has a full history so it's been looked after, the last service was 6000 miles ago / 9 months ago.

I'm thinking of cleaning the maf sensor and changing the sensor that detects the engine temperature to see if that helps. Any other suggestions would be great.

Thank you all in advance,

David

Hi David and Welcome to the club.

I am not an engineer, but at a guess I would be inclined to think that it could be a fuel problem.   There are several fuel system  cleaning additives that could be worth spending a few shillings on.

Engine warming up?  This can take about 12 miles in my 2.7 litre diesel, and this weather I would not be too concerned by 7 miles.

Maybe members who drive this model will have some ideas, too.

Regards,

Peter.

Hello David and a warm welcome to THE JAGUAR OWNERS CLUB. Like Peter before me I also sense a fuel problem going on there and I would expect the engine to be reaching operating temperature after 7 miles of driving unless of course, if those miles were downhill. I like to clean my fuel system out at regular intervals by adding REDEX to a tank full of fuel.

Thank you for your kind welcomes Peter and Kenny.

Funnily enough I had bought some Redex yesterday for my second fill. I think I'll go for a long drive down the M1 tomorrow, work the Redex through the system, and see if that does the trick with the juddering.

As for the temperature gauge, I'm glad to hear mines actually rather normal. I was comparing it to my last car, which would get to temperature after just a couple of miles. I think I was just a bit shocked by the difference.

Out of interest, does the club have any events or meets organised in or around Nottingham or the East Midlands? It would be nice to attend and get involved somehow.

Thank you both again. I greatly appreciate it.

David
