Hi. I'm new to this site. I have a 2005 plate Str.  Really immaculate.  Just had some work done on it. When I got it back it was leaking coolant.  On inspection leak was from expansion tank bleed screw. The o ring perished. Called jaguar and they tried to sell me whole new tank at £120. Parts not available separately.  Went into my garage and found a rubber o ring on my jet washer which fitted perfectly.  Cost..... Nil. Love my Str.  Love jaguars.

Welcome to the club, Paul.

The S Type is a very nice car and in my opinion, a future classic.

Many people think that Jaguars are expensive to maintain  ---  you have just proved they are not.

The aim of main dealers is not to make sales of cars - it is to make money!

Regards,

Peter.

Hi old Peter. You are surely right. They only want to make money.  It just annoys me that aftersales can be so poor and expensive.  Basically for a rubber o ring.  New tank???? Thankfully us motorists can be clever. Just makes jag dealers look stupid and greedy. Taking the wife to Devon tomorrow for 2 nights.  Looking forward to 310 miles round trip. There can be no better car to cruise in than a jaguar.  This is my second. Always had BMW including e36 m3. Str kills it!!!

Hi

and to make it worse some of the new expansion tanks don't have the low level warning pocket for the sensor

so if a new expansion tank is required make sure it has the low level sensor on it

a deffinate early warning system if you lose coolant

cheers

Hi Paul,

My first really long trip in my S Type was roughly the same distance - a week in Dorset.

Being half way to everywhere is the advantage of living in the West Midlands.

I  have used a local mobile mechanic for repairs and servicing since 2002 and he is a half the price of main dealers.  A Diagnostic check at Colliers in Tamworth cast me £69.  I bought an OBD2 code reader for £20 and saved a fortune!

Have a nice trip.

Peter.
