Trickle charger

Featured Replies

Just got a trickle charger after hearing the problems you can have with a low battery as I do a lot of short journeys my questions is i'am going on holiday for 2 weeks is it ok to leave it on for the 2 weeks or not, or how long and often do you guys use them.

                                                                                                                             Thanks Gordy

hi

Ive got the genuine jaguar trickle charger which is made by CTEK, which can be left on as long as you want,

mines on charge every time i put in the garage, CTEK chargers are multistage and work really well

what trickle charger do you have, a good one can be left on indefinately, a cheap one, only short term as these can boil all the sulphuric acid out and need topping up regular

cheers

Must admit its a cheap one 4.5amp solar powered so will only use a few hours at a time how much are the Jaguar one's out of interest thanks

I use an Optimate trickle charger for my Harley as alarm slowly drags the battery down so I leave it connected all the time its sitting

Hi

the jaguar ones are about £100 to £150

but its made by ctek so you can get the exact one without the jaguar logo for about £40

here's one on amazon

the genuine one come with a 12v aux plug on it and it comes with a 12v aux socket and fuse, which you fit in the boot and wire to the battery

the plug, socket and fuse are available from maplin or halfords and hey presto, you have the same charger as the jaguar one for a quarter of the price

Thanks for the info will get a CTEK one

  • 4 years later...

My dad has a Jaguar s type and he’s gone on holiday for a few weeks (staycation) so I wanted to put a trickle charger on his car battery.

i have a universal Oxford trickle charger and when I finally found the battery in his car the instructions said to connect the red clip to the positive terminal and the black clip to the chassis, a bolt or car bodywork.  I was nervous to do this to be honest so I thought I’d ask you all what is the best place in the boot to connect the negative clip?
I’m a total novice if you can’t tell haha. Thank you

No problem in doing that Lou though you can just as easily attach both to the battery.

hi

as above just connect to the battery terminal

just check the battery has a vent pipe fitted, as it should have and it goes out the back panel behind the bumper

if you leaving it on charge you can get a build up of gas, in the boot,  if no vent pipe is fitted

cheers

Joe

Thanks so much for the replies everyone. I was concerned about connecting the black clip to the black terminal because the trickle charger handbook says it can cause a build up of gas and then explosion..!
could someone show me a picture of the vent pipe so I know what I’m looking for?
Really appreciate the help gentlemen, thank you x
