Good morning. I have had my S type for about 9 months. Over that period I have locked the car with my remote and left the car. On about 5 occasions I have returned to the car to find all the windows and the sunroof fully open. Am I missing something? Any ideas please

Hi Tim,

Thai is a bit curious.  I have inadvertently opened my s type by sitting on my keys,  but if it is happening a few times then there is something wrong.

I don't think it could be battery failure, but it could be worth checking.

Can the windows and sunroof be opened from the key fob?   I know my windows will close if left open , but  they wont open with my key fob.

Quite mysterious!

I wonder if you disconnected the battery for 5 minutes [make sure you have your radio code handy] which will reset the EU.  Worth a try and it costs nothing.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Peter.

If you unlock the car with the key fob a quick touch of the button will just unlock the doors, but if you hold the button for a bit longer then all the windows and sunroof will open.

This is most likely what you did when you found the car with windows and sunroof open.  They had probably only just opened, not as you feared that they had been open for a long time.

As Robin says, Global opening would leave all your windows and sunroof (if fitted) open Tim.

On other marques, I have heard of problems of this nature but on the S-Type, such events that I am aware of have eventually been traced to inadvertent operation of the key fob buttons. That's not to guarantee that such problems couldn't occur though.

On one occasion that I can recall, it was down to the erm, lack of space in an individual's trouser pocket. There is very little recess around the key fob buttons so this is a distinct possibility in your case as well.

The thing with global opening (and closing) is that once the button has been pressed for long enough to initiate the operation, the button no longer needs to be pressed for the operation to complete ie. fully open (or closed) so the button only needs to have been pressed for a couple of seconds.

Thank you all. The key fob is a bit slow to respond so hey presto I press it a bit longer! I have just tried holding it again and everything opens. Thanks all.

Hi Tim,

I think your key fob is OK. Don't bother changing it. I  have just learned something about pressing it down a bit longer.

Mine is just like yours and the batteries do last a long time.

Regards

Peter.
