Have we got any electricians in the group? I had a warning light telling me that the right hand rear brake light was not working, so I bought a new bulb & fitted it. Now it lights, but VERY dim. What do you think the problem is?

Hi Andy,

I am not an electrical expert, but have changed those bulbs a couple of times, and I am guessing the the connection is a bit dirty.

There are several electrical experts who will advise also.

Regards

Peter.

If a good cleanup of the contacts doesn't work Andy, I'd suggest a check that both 12 volt supplies are present at the cluster. Check the second from left and second from right bus bars with a volt-meter with respect to ground. You should have 12 volts at both.

One supply down can cause some weird and wonderful effects.

Have you got the right bulb. We have just changed ours.Tried to use one from stock box of various car lights. Wouldn't fit properly. The one we took out wasn't right either.

Went to Halfords and got specific bulb. It has off-set pins and fitted and worked. If not specific bulb, will light side light instead of brake light. Hope that helps.

Hi Peter- (Queen Bess) is running as well as ever. Another twelve months Mot. Rear drive shafts and bearings changed but engine is purring. Just hit 80,000 as work done. Garage were impressed by engine.

Taking caravan to Cornwall soon. Great tow car. Have to watch the speed. Ha ha.
